The problem with religious morality...

The problem with religious morality is that it often causes people to care about the wrong things, leading them to make choices that needlessly perpetuate human suffering.

Consider the Catholic Church: This is an institution that excommunicates women who want to become priests, but it does not excommunicate male priests who rape children. The Church is more concerned about stopping contraception than stopping genocide. It is more worried about gay marriage than about nuclear proliferation. When we realize that morality relates to questions of human and animal well-being, we can see that the Catholic Church is as confused about morality as it is about cosmology. It is not offering an alternative moral framework; it is offering a false one.

Ya see the issue here is that morals are opinions.
Likewise, saying that a set of them is "right" or "wrong", or correct or incorrect, would also only be opinions.

So in my opinion,
Most morals from most religions should be abolished.
As a replacement we should use the general morals that have been developed in my country.

Murder is wrong.
Rape is wrong.
Theft is wrong.
Politicians suck.

So on and so forth.

Religion is not a requirement for a set of morals.
Nor is it needed to make someone morally correct.
So what's the point of using religious morals?

It would be nice if America was both religiously free as well as religiously objective.
Meaning that our laws and politics were not publicly allowed to go in favor of a religion.

Can you honestly say the U.S isn't in favor of Christianity?
No personal hate, just that they honestly get too much leeway.
Matter of fact, a lot of them complain that they don't get enough leeway.

If it was up to me gay rights would have been set as a religious and human freedom from the start. (because it is)
But a lot Christians got butthurt and that's slowing down the process.
Another reason why religious morals should be abolished.

Anyways just some food for thought.

Peace.

I think the OP is more about entrenched power structures than "religious morality".
Those in entrenched positions of power will do anything to maintain and exploit that power.

Look at secular institutions like Wall Street and Congress. Good Ol'Boys protect each other at the expense of the victimized. I blame the monkeysphere.

The problem with so-called religious morality is that it is mere sterile following of rules. It causes atrophy of compassion and real moral reasoning.

The problem with so-called religious morality is that it is mere sterile following of rules. It causes atrophy of compassion and real moral reasoning.
Indeed, people who are brought up with divine command theory have a great deal of trouble even imagining how people can be moral unless they're being told what to do by a higher power. The upshot is that they tend to end up morally immature and unable to correctly respond to difficult situations, which can result in some pretty terrible outcomes in real life.

Not all religions are like that, but it's distressingly common. And ironic, since it's one of the ostensible benefits of religion.
