Negotiation can be worthwhile. My wife's system died and I went to Frys (after a bit of searching) to get a new one. I decided on it, $100 discount for a great system, and said to the sales guy to write it up. But he could not find one in a box. So I said "give me an out of box discount or give me a $100 discount on the comparable one over there or I walk out of the store". I got $50 which I thought was reasonable. The machine is now doing it's initial update dance.

Remove all nonsense installations and free offers....that is if this is form a box store.

So, the four year old missed "play time" by three minutes today. And I think I might have an actual idea on how to work with him, maybe. I also had took some anti-anxiety medication before I started my day, and though I didn't feel more competent, I felt more capable throughout the day as the four year old didn't fry my nerves and I got an hour with another client right after the four year old didn't bother me, nor did the other adult after him, and even still felt fine when I picked the two kids up for the visitation.
And I didn't have to tell the one guy to turn his thermostat down. I just got to nag him about eating healthy, drinking less soda, reminding him caffeine is bad for is bad heart, and not just denying that he is evil and mean and bad but going as far to call him a teddy bear after he said he's "too evil for Satan."

Just think.....
A year ago you were under-employed & single.
Now you're a professional with many children!
At this rate, next year Elon Musk will be your
personal secretary.

Went for a walk...
Its snowing, breezy and 28 degrees
There is ice just about everywhere
Then I see a woman crossing he street
in 6 inch stiletto heels...

Today my last client wasn't at the day care, and instead was at home, and it was so ****ing ****ty that I blew a head gasket and lost all abilities to give a ****. About anything, at this moment. I have 0% motivation to even get this note done that I have to get in and emailed today. Don't care. I just want to sleep, and sleep through tomorrow, not giving a **** that my first client would miss out of a food bank thingy and that DCS mom wouldn't get her visitation. Her kids are too good for her, anyways.

I hope everything is finalized alright, and you don't somehow get ripped off somewhere. That's my cautious nature talking

Microsoft stopped that in Windows 10. Much of their crap can't be removed.

However thanks to two different backup programs, did I tell you I'm paranoid about bad backups, really really paranoid, the new system is looking good. For backups I use VEEAM free for local backups of the entire system and Backblaze for all user data to the cloud. I needed to recover the added fonts which are in \windows\fonts which Backblaze did not backup but VEEAM did.

On my system with an extra external hard drive, I also use the Microsoft windows 7 backup for three different backups. Did I say I'm paranoid about backups.

There is a reason. Early in my career I was sent to put a system back together with another person. Backups were partially unusable but after perhaps 36 hours of straight work, we got the system 98% back and started another backup. That backup failed. But we won eventually.

Then we were using new hardware to develop and needed to do a restore. The backup tapes started off looking like write only tapes. After many incantations we managed to get the data back. In this case the tape driver could not handle stop/start but could stream.

Where I volunteer, others with the same level of paranoia constructed a system where data preservation is essential. Primary storage is RAID 6. Disk backup is RAID 5 or 6. Three different tape backups are done, two offsite in two different locations, using two different tape libraries. And the most critical files are backed up to the cloud.

Did I say I'm paranoid about backups?

There may be away to remove things from Windows 10, I will have to test it, but I only work with enterprise so my results will likely be very different than home version. There is an installer that you can run in Win7 that I believe is still there in 10 and there is a Microsoft tool that can be downloaded and run that will also uninstall things that "Programs and features" do not even tell you are there. I am at home today due to a snow storm, I need to start testing on my Win10 PC this week and I will test to see if those are there and work. If they do I will let you know.

On Home 10, Powershell can uninstall things that the gui cannot. Look around at what other people have posted online.

Enterprise is different and allows bloatware to be removed. Actually some can be removed in home and pro but a lot can't.

FYI for the non-techy - RAID 5 means one disk can fail with no loss of data. RAID 6 means two can fail at about the same time with no loss in data. Another friend of mine with RAID 5 had a 2 drive failure and lost a lot of work.
