Cancellations dealt such a blow to my billable hours that just to salt the wounds I was supposed to talk to one of my client's therapist today, and she was out sick.

Apparently faking it and making literally everything up as I go along is paying off, and today rather than hearing about a mistake (my usual way of learning I did something wrong) I got a compliment from the program coordinator that she can see a difference in one of the clients she gave me. I'm still learning everything, but apparently I'm doing all right. Ask me what I do and I'll say "uuhhhhhhh........," so it seems I do "uuhhhhh......" very well.
But what I'm finding interesting, is so far I've only thought terrible and/or mean things about the office and these two boys I call "the Breads" in my inner voice. "The Breads" probably wouldn't fly in the office, given it's racial implications to me is the Wonder Bread and White Bread are both annoying white boys, but the things I have thought things about the printer--especially because that inner monologue was heavily inspired by the Boondocks--that I dare not even whisper at work for it would be the end of my job. And other things besides that. But I told coworkers we should use it to make a hole in the wall for a new window.

Looking for tech advice for this iMac and I come across this for a hard drive that you cannot access, that appears to not be there

Step 1) Make sure you back everything up on your hard drive before you continue

that is as good as the Microsoft error

Keyboard error, hit any key to continue

Back when I was young and dinosaurs ruled the earth--and a user could actually do things to repair a mac without IT help--the first step was making sure it was plugged in, followed by making sure all the hardware components were still properly seated and connected. Then there were a couple of tricks at reboot to determine where the problem might be in terms of hardware or software, and so on...But by the G4 and OS9 they made it basically impossible to self-serve a mac, and although I got some advanced training, I never got to use it before I changed jobs/careers...and my G4 is still functioning...

Dumb bear. Take the hard drive out of the unit and perform a low-level copy just like the drive recovery people do. Problem solved.Or even simpler, try it in another machine as a second drive - maybe the motherboard hates you.

Or in the bad old days when drives had "sticktion" remove it, rap it just hard enough on the end of a desk and reinsert it. Repeat as necessary until the drive spins up.

Try working with macOS High sierra

I have official mac training and I am the Mac support guy, but I have 6 Macs to support as compared to 300 PCs....and he Macs run fairly problem free these days so I don't get to work on them much

Have not worked with any of the new iMacs, have you

This is not a PC and it is not an older Mac..and low level format....how long has it been since you worked on a PC?

That was one of the tricks I learned!:)

New iMacs are sealed, can't pull the hard drive and there is no low level format....

Anything can be opened and sealed again with duct tape and superglue.

Frankly I prefer using......

Say what you will about Microsoft , but they make it one whole heck of a lot easier to download the software you need to repair their crap that Apple does..... I have to tell you Mac is maddening

OK...install the OS on an external Drive
Boot to external Drive
Use external drive to find actual drive
find the drive
Erase the drive
Reboot to actual drive
Bring up Disk utilities
reinstall OS
EUREAKA!!!! It worked

and after I went and made a bootable flash drive that would force the install....did not get a chance to see if it works....but..I'm ok with that
