The power company out here, PG&E, announced precautionary power outages to prevent another terrible fire due to weather conditions. They were supposed to do phase 2, around us, at noon today but have postponed it to 8pm.

8pm is great because we can drive into Berkeley to see a Dakha Braka concert at the Freight & Salvage..

How exactly does shutting off power reduce the chance of another catastrophic wildfire?
