I hate news stories that are basically "this happened. We dont know anythimg other than it happened." What happened to publishing full and completely stories?
The internet makes it possible to report on news events as they happen. It takes a bit longer to figure out the Who, Why, and How...and sometimes, even the What and When.
Just this weekend, we had a 'swatting' incident about a mile from where we live...the initial reports only stated what had been heard over the police scanner, and that traffic was fouled up because it was near an intersection where it is a couple of miles around in any direction to avoid the street closures. that was at about 12:30 pm.
The incident was cleared by 3 pm. by about 9 pm there were online updates at the local newspaper and TV stations, with actual comments from the police with a description of what happened: someone apparently from a particular residence had called 911 to report he had just shot his mother. No one responded when police got there, so they forced entry...only to find there was no one home...but they still had to search the house, contact the owners, search nearby houses, etc.,...there have only been confusing minor updates since then...
long story short: the internet is faster than news collecting and reporting...HOLD THE PRESSES! WE INTERRUPT THIS BROADCAST!
