And stocks are making even less sense to me now.
They go up. They go down and are doing crap.
Many are doing better than predicted and things look good.
There's a lot of selling over losses.

Try being me...

We had a bundle invested in American stocks then 2007/8 hit.

In 2015 we sold our company, set up trusts for the kids and invested the rest to give us about 50k per year to transfer to euros to finance our lives in france. That gave us about 70000+ €.

Then brexit came and the exchange rate dropped from 1.42€ to £1 to as low 1.06€ to £1.

We have taken a cut of about 20k per year became some right-wing xenophobes won a vote.

Today the rate rose from 1.1094 to 1.1067, then began to drop, time to move money before it drops to far. Did the transfer and was satisfied when it dropped another couple of points. Then got very annoyed with myself for jumping too quick as the exchange rate jumped to 1.11... had i have held my nerve and waited another two hours we would have made a bundle (about 22€)

So the health story comes to an end (i hope)

It went... a blood test suggested i had a blood clot, the doctor sent me to see a cardiologist to check it wasn't an urgent heart problem causing the clot. The cardioligist was concerned about the blood test and an irregularity in my breathing so sent me to the ER for urgent test. The tests all came back negative.

My doctor today says a healing operation can present similar blood results to a blood clot, i had two serious stomach ops, last one in January so it seems the scarring is screwing up my bloods.

A blood clot can be a killer so better safe than sorry eh?
they could at least tell you what and why they so concerned...NOT KNOWING WHAT"S GOING ON is much, much worse than being able to say they're concerned about a blood clot, but it could just be leftovers from the operation...

My stepson is currently going through a battery of tests because a couple of weeks ago his feet started to swell (my guess is because he stays in his room most of the time, sits and sleeps in the same chair, doesn't get up and move around much except to go to work...where he sits most of the day doing electronics...and then drinks way too much beer)...so much so that he couldn't get his work boots on, and only barely get his tennis shoes on, was having a hard time walking, and so...

Compression socks and more activity seem to have helped, so far...he gets to go back to work on Monday...

That sounds like good news - at least much better news than could have been the case.

When dealing with such situations, hope and fear, happiness and regret wage total war inside one as I know from experience.

Not knowing was the bind. Doctor though she had told me, maybe my french is nor as good as it should be.

Hope your stepson gets back on his feet soon.

Sounds like you follow my investment strategy...
Buy high & sell low.
