Here's the "rest of the story" - perpexity.ai answer to "why is a mouse when it spins"

The phrase "Why is a mouse when it spins?" is a nonsensical riddle that has puzzled many due to its seemingly absurd nature. The typical answer given is "Because the higher, the fewer," which also appears to lack logical coherence.

Origins and Interpretations

  1. Historical Context: The riddle has roots in comedic literature, with variations appearing in works dating back to the late 19th century. Notably, it was featured in a Christmas book by Robert Overton in 1892, where the phrasing was slightly different, asking "When is a mouse if it spins?" instead of "Why"
  2. Mechanics Explanation: Some interpretations link the riddle to steam engine mechanics. Specifically, it refers to a governor mechanism that reduces engine speed when a spinning weight (metaphorically referred to as a "mouse") is lifted due to centrifugal force. This results in fewer revolutions at higher speeds, hence "the higher, the fewer" [/URL]
  3. Philosophical and Cultural Analysis: Beyond its mechanical interpretation, the riddle has been analyzed philosophically. It can symbolize perseverance through confusion, representing the experience of learning and navigating through complexities of life
. The term "mouse" can also evoke various cultural meanings, such as courage and focus in Native American symbolism
  4. Absurdist Humor: Ultimately, the riddle embodies elements of absurdist humor. It plays on language and expectations, similar to other nonsensical phrases like "No soap, radio!" The humor lies not in the content but in the confusion it creates
In summary, while "Why is a mouse when it spins?" appears nonsensical at first glance, it encompasses historical, mechanical, philosophical, and comedic dimensions that contribute to its enduring fascination.

I can't see how that blue car could get in that position. Though maybe it was staged not photoshop but it still smells phony to me.

First thing I thought of was all the different positions my stock guys put my little Escort in for me to find when I walked out of the store at the end of the day. This is something they would have done had they the ways and means.

The only thing that would surprise me about your household is a video of you all singing Kumbaya
Yudhi would sing Kumbaya with a big smile, while the other three Moe, Larry and Curly-ied it up, and I played referee.

(Ares would be Moe, LeeAnder would be Larry, and Sam would be Curly.)

*sigh*

Don't tell Sam that.

He's been trying to be the next big YouTube star for years now...
I was tempted and I wound up searching YouTube for posters named "Sam". I found "Calamity Sam" who for a second I thought might be him but it's a woman's site.

I saw one of LeeAnder's old teachers today. I said something or another, and she said "but you're the only girl in the family!" I quickly told her "Oh, no. That's my husband."

Her and LeeAnder both broke up laughing.

I agree. Come to think of it, I never cared about who shot J.R. either. I remember when that was a major issue for a lot of people. There were even people who bumper stickers that said "Who shot J.R.?"

It was at that point that I realized that our society was past the point of no return.
