I know this is sounding very old and geezerly..... but I miss Christmas of the old days.....
I miss walking in the woods as a family for Christmas greenery. Even after we got the silver aluminum tree in the early sixties, we took the walk for mistletoe, holly, and cedar boughs to decorate around the front door and make the Yule Log centerpiece for the dining room table. I have enough small cedars on my 1/2 acre of woods to do the table centerpiece, but no holly. My oldest would be willing to take me to public game land for the hunt, but unfortunately the deer hunters, the dog runners, not the treestand hunters, can be "very" rude for disturbing their sport, so we don't bother.

One year, about 10 years ago, I was determined to have a live tree off of my own land. Maybe I should do it again? LOL

My husband makes our yule log. A cocoa concoction of his mothers that doesn't look anything like a cake mix but it works great to make a swiss style roll.
Spread with chestnut, thick whipped cream and cognac puree. Rolled and coated with melted chocolate.
Great centerpiece for the Saturnalia meal

I love love love the Christmas season! I love everything about it.
Holi and Beltaine are my favorites.

The last two years, we missed Holi because the temple changed the date (of the celebrations) last minute.

Its always on a weekend, so my husband has to take time off. If they change it, we can't go.

Actually it's pretty good in france, not so commercial, not pushed down your throat in every shop you go to. It doesn't even get going until well into December though the decorations are beginning to go up in late November. And the stalls for the Christmas markets are being erected.

When i lived in the UK Christmas started in September. It was horrible
