but over 40 trick-o-treaters..... time to shut it all down

I haven't had a single one in the 12 years I've lived here. They do the Trunk 'n Treat in church parking lots these days.

I just went out to shut it all down and for the first time since I lived here, the street was lined with cars bringing in kids from other places... that happened where I use to live, it actually got so bad virtually everyone on the street shut their lights off and didn't do any of it....

In early 2000s I lived on a cul de sac that rocked hard until at least 8 with cars that dropped the kids off at the neighborhood entrance. I didn't even bother to close the door. My little dog LOVED all the company. It was fun for a few years but grew old as the Trick or Treaters started showing up more than once, and oftentimes taller than me.

Knew a guy, that as a kid, he and his friends would go to this rather hard to get to neighborhood full of mini-mansions.... they never got trick o treaters there.... they would wear 2 costumes....hit all the houses the first time...take the outer costume off and hit them all again. They never got anyone there..... so they didn't have candy....so instead...they gave out money...

When my kids were young and Holloween hit on a weekend that they were with their Dad, I forgot. I thought word of my apples would spread and cause them to "trick" (it was that kind of neighborhood), but actually they loved it!

yeah, but did they run over your mailbox and try and tell you it was your fault......

They did finally end up replacing it by the way
No but I had a contractor start a job, get partial payment and walk off leaving a mess once. And we had a real dispute about the staining on kitchen cabinets being wrong another time. People, even honest ones, screw up from time-to-time. The best one's are honest.

This one ignoramus did yell at us, as she drove by, to get a job. My friends and I were all like, uhhh, ok, whatever, must be jealous she has a boss telling her when to work because we all "have a job" but lack that thing that would prevent us from being able to show up.
And never mind the fact I never hear RWers tell eachother to get a job when they protest.

I've never had so many people congratulating me and giving me pat on the back compliments.
Which makes me wonder how is what WBC does considered a protest and free speech rather than being a public nuisance given so many people hate their disrespectful, harassing, hateful and hurtful ways, ways that have got them banned in some countries.

Tonight we watched an Unearthed episode on the legend of King Midas and more. There is serious archeology about that legend. I find it interesting about how history turns into mythology. The "Gordian knot" story was connected with Midas' father and a number of Greek historians led to the writers of the episode to state it was most likely true that Alexander the Great did cut a knot related to Midas's dad.

Wikipedia is skeptical but other sites verify at least some of the archeology.

I tend to look at these things like the old Illinois Nazis case. Everybody hates Illinois Nazis, yet they still allowed them to march publicly, just to prove a point about free speech.

But then again, they were using tear gas and dogs on civil rights protesters just a few years earlier. Then there were incidents like Kent State. So, free speech has been a bit spotty and inconsistent in this country. It's difficult to draw the line, since a supposedly peaceful protest might degenerate into a rioting mob. Somebody's always looking to stir up trouble (and sometimes it's the cops themselves).
