I decided to splurge since I had done really well on my diet lately and get a shamrock shake from McyD's. Their line was SO slow moving that by the time I finally got to the window they shoved two cups of melted glops of green and white into my hands, thanked me, and closed the window. Argh.

Not only did I make another one, I went a Double-Stuf better!

Look on the decuple-stuft Oreo, ye Mighty, and despair... and click, ye Mighty, for a bigger version:

The raw materials - five golden double-stuft Oreos! (the four calling birds, three French hens, etc. were omitted due to an oversight on my part)

The interim stage: two quadruple-stuft Oreos and a virgin double-stuft:

The final product! The decuple-stuft Golden Oreo (along with the cookie halves that weren't eaten during production of Gigantoreo):

And of course, all Oreos are fleeting, even decuple-stuft Oreos. As they say, sic transit Oreo:

If these were the chocolatey ones, it would be magical!! :)

A snippet of some of the geometry stuff I've been doing lately:

As you can see, it has to do with parallelism and proportion between polygons. Here's another:

And a circle. :D

Math never ends. It's just that as you get older, you learn that all the stuff that was taught without context to you as a kid is actually useful in the real world. :)

(BTW - that picture is the geometry involved in laying out a simple curve for a road. It's all the stuff you need to go from the physics equations that tell you "the radius needs to be X00 m" to actually having a design that someone can stake out and build.)

This looks geeky, as in, freaking awesome! :D

I could be wrong, but it does look like a more full-fledged and detailed version of basic geometry, rather than being something totally different.

Also, I really suspect many people don't realize how sophisticated the process of designing roads is. Who would have thought that a simple curve takes this much work to lay out?

Totally. It's all stuff that's covered in high school math. It's just that most schools don't do a good job of explaining how the math they're teaching is useful.

Heh... Kipling wrote a poem about that. It's popular with engineers: The Sons of Martha

All of these math stuff reminds me of my first exam for tom.- physics. And Holy Mother of God, I freakin love it for some reason. :p Though I'm having some information overload right now. Been reading 3 books of different subj these past few days. Agh.

Speaking of math in general, I think schools here in my place (many, if not all) fail to explain how to apply a particular concept of math in real life (except the basics). I've encountered a lot of profs since highschool which tends to focus on the theoretical aspect of maths rather than how to apply those theories. I think, that's what make most pips uninterested or avoid mathematics. But yeah, back then and even up to now, my motivation is I think of it as a game. A game of finding answers. ;)

When I was coaching the robotics team (made up of kids aged 8-14), I was amazed how if I prefaced what I was saying with "hey - here's something that will help you make your robot work better", they would sit in rapt attention while I spent 10 or 15 minutes explaining some math concept that would have made their eyes glaze over if their teacher had taught it in math class.

You should have been a math prof. or something like that on the first place. :D

While I was on the bus earlier, otw to the univ (exam day today), there was this really gorgeous lady who sitted beside me. She keeps on looking at me, as if we know each other. Kinda surprised when she later asked me if I know Religious Forums. She recognized me. Jeez, could have been better if I don't have these crutches with me. Didn't know that there exists another RF member near my area. :D
