It's the first time I see Erdogan smiling.
I mean...of course...finally a US President who professes the same religion as his.

That's good.
Is it?
We never know what a law is until enforcement
results in court decisions which result in changes
in enforcement which result in court decisions,
& so on.
Will unreasonable accommodations be required?
Will bureaucracy blossom?
Will scam artists use the law to fleece businesses?
It's all happened before.
Personal experience there.

As you may know, Evil Socialism comes from Europe. (That makes me incredibly proud ;))

Evil Socialism wants to impose labor rulings on employers.
Which are...actually necessary to guarantee a juster society.

I tell you an anecdote.
I used to have a very good dentist as a teenager.
He was not only good...but also attractive. Tall, aquamarine eyes, ... all women would drool for him.

His wife, who was his secretary, was incredibly jealous. And the rumor was that she would only hire robust, overweight nurses to prevent her husband from cheating on her with an employee...

You see? That's what those women are for. ;)

We have many people who make a living filing fraudulent suits
against businesses using the ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act).
I've had a couple such $1,000,000 suits. They're easy for me to win
because the suers have no evidence. But winning isn't the plaintiffs'
goal. They try to coerce a settlement by threatening the high cost
of defending oneself.

One case I had....
This person was never even my tenant. He'd applied to lease
an apartment, but he had no income, so we turned him down.
2 or 3 years of fighting his discrimination suit for $1,000,000
resulted in my client (who was paying the legal bills) settling
for $400. He'd already spent around $10,000. If it went to trial,
it would cost an order of magnitude more. So he paid the $400.
There are no costs to the plaintiff. With no income, the court
waived all his filing fees. And there are typically no sanctions
against filing meritless suits.

When I'm sued, & it's my property, not a client's, I never pay
a settlement for a meritless suit. I'd rather spend the money
to win than encourage a crook to keep doing this to others.
It's not profitable, but it's the right thing to do.

So politicians should be careful no to create laws that
enable crooks & lawyers to fleece innocent people.
But most politicians are lawyers, so frivolous suits
feather their nest.

It's sly attorneys who suggest those things to their clients.
Because they exploit laws to make money, at the cost of the truth.

Sounds like lawyers run your country.
Having no right to represent oneself smacks of fascism
because government controls the licenses of lawyers.
Of course.
We are still a fascistic State. Anything is controlled by the State.
In 1945 we told Americans we were healed from Fascism just to reassure them. ;)

It's not much different in this country, even with the right to represent oneself. When does that ever really work in practice?

At typically $300/hour not everyone can afford a lawyer.
And for those who use a public defender, not all of those
are to be trusted. Many are over-worked, & won't devote
time necessary. Many just aren't good enuf to get a real
job. And some are in bed with the cops & courts, & try
to get every defendant to plead guilty to a winnable case.
I've successfully represented myself in simpler cases.
I like that right.

Do you believe we should have no right to represent ourselves?
Or just that it's not a right worth having?
