The Search for Atlantis

I was watching a few episodes of a marathon, of a TV program, about, The Search for Atlantis. There was an Archeologist and Geologist and they travel around the ancient world, to exam possible sites, trying to find clues. The first episode I saw was very fascinating since they were looking in Croatia, which is just east of Italy and on the other side of the Adriatic Sea.

Some of the finds, that local teams shared, with them, were rewriting the history of the ancient world. For example, they found some small fired clay animal figures and other such specimens dated back to 5000-6000 years BC, based on carbon dating. These quality specimen were about 2000 years older than was thought possible at that time. That region, is although relatively unexplored for artifacts, now has some of the oldest finds connected to civilizations, being way ahead of their time. It was also an area, where the oceans were much lower 5-6K years ago, with the digs under water. The rise of the ocean was connected to ancient climates change and glaciers melting and the seas rising.

The Greek Philosopher Plato writes about Atlantis and describes, based on stories, a group of island connected by earthen bridges. They have found one 100 meter earthen bridge; gravel walkway, that is under water. Also near by they were shown the fourth largest sink hole big enough to swallow a city. This was carved out by underwater passages erode as the oceans rose, until the sinkholes collapsed. When the sea was lower all the islands were a lot closer and spread out as the water level rose.

The second episode I saw they went to Sicily, which was another possible site. There they have an active volcano Mt Aetna, which is 10,000 ft tall. The local expert brought them on a tour and explain how there had been a major eruption, 8000 years ago, where the side in the mountain disappeared in a series of landslides. The amount of mass displace was about 5-10 times that of Mt Saint Helens. The landslide went into the Mediterranean Sea and based on their calculations would have caused a displacement tidal wave over 150 feet tall. Anything along the eastern Mediterranean Sea coast would have been flooded and destroyed. The main ancient civilizations would appear later.

That area in and around Croatia, which the include Czech Republic to the north, are very rich in ancient artifacts that pre-date the ancient world, which developed south toward the Middle East and northern Africa. In the Czech Republic there are now over 20,000 archeological sites that pre-date the "first Civilizations". What they are finding are the first civilization, were already there, such as farms from 8000 years ago.

The landslide and displacement tidal waves from Mt Aetna eruption, 8000 years ago, would have wiped out all the coastal settlements along the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Those more sheltered in the northern Adriatic Sea, may have got by with less damage. I can see that being the great flood told on many stories passed down. The human ego developed somewhere between 10,000-6000 years ago.

Unfortunately, TV stations like the History Channel don't provide quality science or history. They design their shows to appeal to people so that their ratings are high. Shows that explore where Atlantis might be are on the same level as shows that explore Extraterrestrials visiting earth.

The archeological finds that you discuss above are really very interesting, but of course they don't even come close to proving the Atlantis legend.

People back in Plato's time did not have modern science. History as we know it today was just in its infancy. Even quality historians of that day didn't really do a good job at verifying sources or seeking evidence. Basically, Plato simply passed on a legend he heard.

Scientists have done their due diligence looking for Atlantis, and have found that it is a myth.

I know, right... Same goes for National Geographic these days.

It used to be otherwise... I remember how in the 90s, and early 2000s, these were actually my favorite channels with quality documentary after quality documentary.

These days, it's so much nonsense and bs "reality tv" crap that is neither here nor there.
"air crash investigation" and "ancient aliens" and "ice truckers" and ... that stupid reality show where they dump naked people on an island.
It's an embarrassment.

I think programs like these are interesting/fun, I even enjoy Ancient Aliens, but it's difficult to verify their data. I remember seeing a person debunking pretty much all of Ancient Aliens claims, giving rather logical explanations for what they were saying and some of it was outright not true.

I don't believe in ancient aliens. My theory has to do with the human brain having two centers of consciousness; inner self and ego. The inner self of humans is older and has evolved since humans first appeared; over 1 million year ago. The inner self is connected and engrained on human DNA to be the center of animal consciousness. The ego is newer and its consolidation is closer to the rise of Civilization and the time of Genesis. Science and religion are both right and wrong. Each is speaking of a different center and each ignores the other. The Titans were more about the inner self, projected.

The rise of the ego secondary center, would have had much more inner self support, which can account for sudden sophistication; the ego terminal had main frame brain support, that is now attributed to aliens. This added outside help, that was really inside help.

The search for Atlantis, to me, is less about that mythological place, but rather when did civilization and the ego appear? Some of the finds in Croatia, are older than the first civilizations of the Middle East. The ego was even weaker, then, so the inner self was more in charge. conceptually they would appear super advanced compare to others of that period and even the immediate future.

We do not have to go to far back to a time when the Ocean were much lower; end of the last glacial cycle, and buildings along the coast would have ended in glacier melt flooding. Croatia has an untapped artifact place, that is now under water, that is similar to the close islands cluster and bridges in the story of Atlantis. The bridges are under water and islands, by being under water, are now farther apart. It is full of older than expected civilized artifacts.

There is also Mt Aetna in Sicily that erupted in that time frame, that sent tidal waves into the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.

I liked the discussion of Atlantis, but more from an evolutionary psychology approach.

I assure you the truth of Atlantis is nothing about aliens. The place Plato described as Atlantis has been found.
Look no further.

@tagliatyou watched them through and through to deterimen the truth value of what I said. What were the springs? Was either hot?
