The Sin of Pornography

Is watching porn a sin? If so, why?
.

It's not a "sin" for me to watch it. As a matter of fact I tend to view porn as something to release the stress or by getting something out of your system. For me Porn is something to explore and to enjoy.

How about acting in porn, professional or amateur?
.

It doesn't really bother me about a person's business if he or she chooses to act in the adult industry. My dad thinks otherwise, my dad thinks that they should stop making porn or ban it. But I would regard my dad's opinion as absurd, each and every one of us cannot live under a strict moral conservative dogma, we have an animalistic nature inside of us all. Many of us have not figured this out, some have. Many of us cannot resist the urges of Sex or Porn either way. As Saint Frankenstien brought up, all of us are "Sexual Species."

In another thread Trends in Pornography Viewing it was mentioned that porn is a terrible sin. So I'm curious as to what you think.

People who think porn is a sin still sit with pop corn and watch horror and action movies. I am all for expressing one's sexuality; and, because porn is acting, why would it be a sin if both adults are consenting. If anything, if it were lust of the flesh rather than acting, I'd see that as a sin if going by scripture. But then, I'm not bound by scripture.

If anything, porn would be the least of sins on my mind if I were to pick a few.

 but that's me.

Clearly i am NOT normal, Porn turns me cold. removes any desire for intimacy ..

But then i am somewhat asexual .. preferring
my own company ..

I do not see Porn or sex as sin, only as something very private between the individuals involved .. ie. "get a room, and please close the door"

There is nothing wrong with sex or nudity - either as a participant or spectator - as long as all involved are informed, consenting adults. The only thing "sinful" is the objectifying and exploitative aspects of the porn industry. Also, viewers who can't differentiate between reality and fantasy will base their perspectives and expectations of sex on what they've seen of commercially produced porn, which is typically very unrealistic.

"Sin" is a religious concept. Most commonly, it means an offense against god. Hence, in my opinion, the question of whether viewing or participating in porn is sinful is best left up to religious folks to determine. As a non-religious person, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other whether porn or participation in it is sinful.

As for whether porn is harmful to the viewer, the science on that seems to be inconclusive in many respects. But the porn industry is notorious on the whole for treating actors -- and especially actresses -- badly. I think that needs to be reformed.

But what if you like it because it's a sin? :smirk:

LOL! I have friends who were raised in strict religions that like porn (and other things) because they are sinful. But I'm way too secular to be titillated by that sort of thing.

On a serious note, I can see porn having detrimental effects and this is independent of my faith. There have been studies done to this effect. It can be harmful for those performing too. However, this only takes into account movie porn. What about graphic images, hentai (this is really just a cartoon after all), written porn?

I can't sit here and decry pornography as anyone who knows me knows I haven't a leg to stand on. At all.

So, go ahead watch/read/look at it all you want; it's between you and God.

Not unlike the Miss America Pageant.

If they have trouble differentiating between reality and fantasy they have a lot more problems than anything porn may produce.

If porn is a sin, it seems a pretty minor one...like tearing off a mattress tag.
I'd be more concerned with the big'ns....false witness...murder...rental fraud.

If a young person's first introduction to sex is via porn, then that person could very well confuse such fantastical acts for attainable ones.
