The truth, the path to God

Truthseeker

Well, if I believed in a God that promotes killing our neighbour, I am not sure I would be saved by your God. Symmetrically, you will not be saved if my God is true, instead.

So, your argument that we are saved independently of religion collapses after a very first basic logical analysis.

That's true. Is that loving our neighbor in your estimation, not mine?

It has been offered for us to consider that God is not part of creation or knowable in Essence, only in Attributes. So any God we have made in our mind is not real.

God can only be known through a Messenger and we get to know God by the Attributes of the Messengers.

You are presenting your position. We need to listen and put our beliefs aside for a second. This is a prelude to a debate, not a discussion or dialogue. This is what you ended up with. This gets no one anywhere.

It is an easy answer. What is the true religion? The answer is in my opinion:

‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’e 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments". Matthew 22:37-40

If you do this, you are saved no matter which religion you believe in (in my opinion)

Jesus really couldn't have made it any simpler.

That is the quandary indeed, truth in this matrix is subjective.

I do not own that thought though, it is available to all and was offered from one who claimed to be a 'Messenger from God'.

So it becomes relative, only if we consider that claim is valid.

Regards Tony
But you see the Dilemma, Tony? If you need to decide whether a claim by a presumed "messenger" is valid or not, the only means you have at your disposal for doing so is your own thought processes. And that is what the followers of other "messengers" (with very different messages) do. And there is no way to resolve this, which is why I am so very dubious about God using "messengers" in the first place. Especially as he would clearly have no need.

This is not to start a debate, however, in this discussion thread.

In answer to the supposed greatest commandment(s) in the OP, I cannot love God at all, since I don't believe in or know such a being. But I do try to love my neighbour, and wish only good and no harm to anyone. I don't know anything about salvation, but that is enough for me to be going on with.

You can't love God and disconnect from his name. If you love God, you will be attached to his names and hence would embark with Noah and all Captains of the ship of salvation of their times since "By the name of God is it's sailing and anchoring..."

What do you believe is the correct path to God?

Attaching yourself to his name and those who hold that light and staying connected to God through his guidance. You are to find those he appoints with clear proofs and not resort to ambiguity. Attribute God truth and never something you don't know. Be sincere to God.

Quran says:

"O You who believe, fear God and seek an intermediary unto to him..."

Those who are the intermediates between God and humans/jinn is the leaders he appoints. They are his beautiful names.

Prophet (s) said:

"I leave you two heavily important items, Quran and my family..."

I guess that is the challenge faced by a one track mind.

What do you mean by "saved"?

but at least you are in the right track. :D

I definitely have to learn to offer my thoughts in other ways, my wife says I just give it black and white, as such she does not need to get angry with me anymore, it used to make her mad at times. What chance do I have for change though, I am an old dog now, can I learn new tricks?

I also have a mentality that it may be wise to offer it all as opinions and thoughts, but I have to get over the thought that it feels dishonest?

A person can try to live these commandments and we should. The problem is we fail, we try to earn our way and in our striving we miss that salvation is a gift from God through Jesus Christ.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

So
love God + love your neighbor as yourself = saved, go to heaven

Couple things,
It's nice you are offering this to all religions, but Mathew certainly wasn't. He is saying love the Christian God, to hell with the rest of you.

I'm not a big fan of compulsory love. It kind of takes the whole meaning out of the word love.

Also I see the golden rule in there. But what if you don't love yourself? Shouldn't that be a prerequisite? What if your neighbor is a thief, liar, murderer? Why should I be compelled to love them as I do myself and my children?

Some people would consider your philosophy a violation of religious tenets. For example, the Christian religion has become a religion of hatred. They want us to hate Gays and ban Gay marriages. They want us to fight wars, join the National Rifle Association, and make torture camps. They redefine the word "torture" so that no torture ever existed anywhere, not even in Nazi concentration camps.

Are we supposed to love Gay as we love ourselves? Are we supposed to love those who made torture camps?

Perhaps we are free to hate the hateful, but still strive to get along?

I know that Jesus wanted us to love our enemies as we love ourselves.

Any discussion could be debated or discussed further. Everyone has opinions, and it would be very odd that everyone has the same opinion about everything. Thus, it is natural that there will be disagreements.

In the cartoon "Dinosaurs" their baby would do something hateful (maybe hit someone), then say "you have to love me, I'm the baby." Perhaps it would be better to train those in our care, and still love them even if they do something wrong?

Isn't it odd that a loving God who considers all of us to be His children would have a place like hell? The threat of hell seems like a way of compelling us to do what God wants us to do. I suppose that it was this threat that enslaved California Native Americans to build missions for Father Junipero Serra? Many were beaten and some were killed.
