Hi Feathers,

We had a wild Goose once that took up camp in our pond. We started feeding it and he adopted us. They follow you everywhere! I was under a car working on it and reached over to grab a wrench and there he was looking me right in the face, Greasy Goose.

Here are two possibilities, but I can't confirm the validity of either:
1) Buttoning left over right--the man's way--is supposedly easiest for right-handed people. According to legend, women button right over left because in medieval times they were dressed by their right-handed maids. Although wealthy men may have had servants to lay out their clothes, they generally dressed themselves, and so the buttons on the right side of men's garments made more sense.

What do you think?
Lords Ladies and Royalty all had Dressers so I don't think that explanation works, as they were the ones who set the fashion.
The poor and others tended to wear smocks which had no buttons.
Buckles the usual fastenings for clothing are not handed.
It would be interesting to look at old paintings to see when the fashion was established, I expect there was no standard at one time.

When male giraffes fight they throw their heads around and belt each other with their horns.
Personally I reckon it'd bugger your neck, but who am I to judge.:D

The site I found said that in the late 18th century, ALL the buttons on everything that buttoned were on the right side. They started to switch and change in the 19th century. From the late 1850's, all the buttons on womens clothing were on the left.
This persons theory is that as male and female clothing began to more approximate each other, the difference in buttoning became a way to differentiate and so show that a woman was not someone of 'low virtue', gadding about the place in men's clothes.

My "Why?" question for the day:
Why do Jews and Christians celebrate the sabbath on different days? Probably what I'm asking is why did Christianity change from Sat to Sun?

Jews celabrate sabbath on saturday because that's the seventh day, and that's when god rested. Seventh-day adventists (a christian sect) also celebrate it on this day for the same reason. The rest of christianity celebrate "the lord's day" which is the day the lord rose from the dead. so we changed days to celebrate that aspect of the religion (his resurection).
