Jews celabrate sabbath on saturday because that's the seventh day, and that's when god rested. Seventh-day adventists (a christian sect) also celebrate it on this day for the same reason. The rest of christianity celebrate "the lord's day" which is the day the lord rose from the dead. so we changed days to celebrate that aspect of the religion (his resurection).
Makes sense. Thanks! But doesn't that mean that Christians are breaking the fourth commandment?

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

I realize that Christians ignore a lot of what is written in "the Old Testament" but I thought the 10 commandments were still revered.

Most christians don't follow the sabath at all! But I do. And I work six days and keep the seventh holy. It's just a matter of which one is the "seventh."

Josephus Daniels (18 May 1862-15 January 1948) was appointed Secretary of the Navy by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913. Among his reforms of the Navy were inaugurating the practice of making 100 Sailors from the Fleet eligible for entrance into the Naval Academy, the introduction of women into the service, and the abolishment of the officers' wine mess. From that time on, the strongest drink aboard Navy ships could only be coffee and over the years, a cup of coffee became known as "a cup of Joe".

Why can I only do effective searches for other people, but when I search for something I want the answer to (for example, who used the slogan, "hey, it could happen.") I can't find it? REdiculous!... :biglaugh:

I knew this until you mentioned it. Can't remember her name. A female comedian that used an accordion for a prop and after relating a bizarre experience or thought said "it could happen". I'll try to remember her name.
