The Word "Retard"

For starters, the way you are phrasing your questions and statements can be perceived as very demeaning. Maybe try switching some of those adjectives to more respectful ones.

I see the difference in the words, however saying

x person is retarded
and
x person is a retard

Has the exact same meaning.
I see only one question and your answer to it, I see, is, "no".
I see a difference.

It is OK if I disagree with you. I see that retarded means slow to learn or unable to learn something. I see the label retard means unable to learn anything.

That does not matter it is still viewed as hate speech and should not be allowed to be used. If we grow past calling black people names and other subjects like that then why can't we as a world grow past using the R word? No way shape or form should it be allowed to be said. JMHO

Because the word doesn't mean what you think it means.

Your idea that the struggle that blacks have endured in USA is IN ANY WAY similar to use of a pejorative term that was widely accepted by all as recent as the 1990s is ignorant at best.

Seriously. I'm amazed about the goofy definitions the word has gotten in this thread. How hard is it to look up a word in this day and age?
retarded:less advanced in mental, physical, or social development than is usual for one's age.

Tell me, please. What serious difference is there between less advanced and slow to learn? It is obvious to me that someone who is less advanced is slow to learn and it amazes me to no end that two reasonably intelligent people present do not see it.

Retard: delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment.

I can see that delay and hold back are related to slow too. Can you show me how they are not related?

If you took a second on google you would understand why your post is stupid. We get the difference between the noun and the adjective. Its the definition you use which completely changes your statement.

Like ****, you wouldn't even need google, you could even bing that ****.
Which post please?

Retarded does not mean unable to learn. A retard is not someone who can not learn. How does a retarded person learn? Slowly. Right?

Is there no difference between saying of a person, "she is promiscuous" and saying, "she is a ****"?

Yes, as I said, I understand the difference between the noun and the adjective.

The difference is that sl*t and promiscuous are not medical terms. I really don't see what is so hard to grasp about this. Your definitions are wrong.
I did not know we were talking about medical terminology. I thought the thread was about name calling. Sorry. :p
I am slow. LOL

I think that in medical terminology retarded is not an insult. I think that "retard" is not a medical term to describe a person, but I might be wrong.
When I googled "is retard a medical term?" Google says, "Did you mean:is retarded a medical term"

Can I change my mind, please?

To call someone a retard is insulting to retarded people like to call someone demented is insulting to people with dementia.
To say someone is schizoid (who isn't) is insulting to all people with schizophrenia.
To say someone is insane (without medical verification) is insulting to the insane "group".
The word lunatic is also now considered offensive fyi.
To call anyone a maniac is offensive to the maniacal minority group.
If I was a doctor I might think of some more for everyone to ignore.

The shrub in front of my office isn't growing properly. It's handi-capable? Or was it's normal growth retarded by an outside force?
