I was thinking on another thread (but didn't post on it since I didn't want to hijack the thread) that since I have found God that I have become a better person- Not perfect but better. I am wondering if other theists feel the same way.

I believe I am a better person for being raised Catholic. Is following a religion the same thing as finding God?..I don't know. I don't feel I have ever developed a close relationship with God, I've simply followed the teachings and ethics that I believe make the best person out of me.

Finding God made one more piece of the puzzle fit, another part of my whole.

Upon finding God, I gave up following Religion and went my own way.

Oh, C.ES, I wish that I would be closer to God but I can't because of my sins. After confessing it, I would do a particular sin again. Do you think it is Satan's tactic that I would feel so "heavy" and guilty of the sins I commited so I cannot establish a Father and son relationship with God?

I believe that having God in my life makes me a more understanding and friendly person. When you have the joy of God in your life you can't keep in locked inside. joy bubbles over and flows to others that are around you.
God's love and blessings has made it easier for me to love and forgive others who have hurt me and be able to keep a smile instead of harboring resentment and anger....For that I think I am a much better person because of having God in my life. ;)

I don't consider myself a theist (so I hope you don't mind my posting here). But I am coming to know the God that exists in my soul. I feel better because of allowing myself approach this God.

I thought Gnostic Christians were by definition 'theists'. what's up with that?

Hi there..
Yes I am all because of God. Actually I don't think a human can find God on his own without the consent of God, its God who finds the man. A man can just have an intention to find God. The intention should be pure like Budha made. Only a small intention is enough.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him)said that when a man takes one step towards Allah, He takes ten steps, and when he walks towards Allah, He runs towards him.

A man can find God without religion but it would take a lot of time and he might get lost in the way. Religion tells an easier way to find God. I think if someone having a religion still can't find God then their some problem with his religion. Man should just pray and pray and then God will show him such miracles that he will certainly find God.

Cheers

I consider myself a better person within myself but it's definitely not up for comparison with other people. Just because I am a Catholic and have found God does not necessarily make me a better person than a Jewish person who has found God or a Muslim who has found Allah. But following an organized religion has made me a better person for sure;
I try my best to not lie, *****, steal or kill [!] so really I can't see how that would make me anything but better!

Absolutely better but not in an arrogant self righteous way, but more a deep inner conviction and sensitivity toawards my responses of others and their needs.

It might not show with some on this forum, but I don't think I have crossed any lines, yet.
I'm still an Irish/Scottsman and that, God is slowly carving away.

It would seem to me that the closer I become with the Lord, the further away I seem to feel I am.
I begin to see my sin with greater intensity as the awe and reverence of him deepens.

Call it maturity or being sanctified, either way I'm changing inside faster then out, someday the outside will line up with teh inside

See this nothing that I am...and the all that is thine.

All glory and honour belongs to god, who is able to take that which was broken and fix it.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Being a Christian and getting to know God has definitely made me a better person - I can't imagine going through life without the anchor of my faith and the principles that give me guidance. Well, actually, I can, because I've tried it without God and without principles, and pretty much made a mess of things on my own.

But God's grace has taught me to extend that grace to others, and to leave the judging to God. Of course, I can use my own JUDGMENT in dealing with others...but that's a whole other topic.

Mea Culpa.

I like to think that it's made me a better person, although I suspect that my Atheist former self would either take issue with that or not see any significant difference.

I believe that my beliefs have made me a better person, that my religious studies and my attempts to apply what I've learned have made a significant improvement in my life.

But it's possible they haven't. Are the changes due to spiritual growth, or just due to the natural process of experiencing life, learning, maturing and gaining wisdom?

I believe that my faith has made a difference, but I acknowledge that it's not the only possible explanation.

While I would not normally interrupt in this sort of thread, can those on here tell me how they think they have become a better person?

It wasn't until after I "rejected" (for lack of a better term) God that I became the better person.
I am now not hindered by what I think 'my' deity commands.
