Well I'll ttyl nice debating with you. I'm going to bed. I mean in nature, like the animals and stars and planets etc.

This is aimed at theists who preach their religion, sorry atheists and those whose religion forbids preaching, I'll make it up to you sometime, promise! :flower2:

I'm not after the semantics here, so you don't "preach" but "invite", etc. I'm interested in learning why it's done, especially why Muslims do it.

Now that's out the way...

  • Why do you preach?
  • What compels you to inform others of your faith?
  • Why do you want others to join it?
  • Is it vanity?
  • Is it good-intentions, your niyyah?
  • Do you want to keep hell as empty as possible?
  • Is it so people can come to know God?
  • Is it your duty, your obligation?
  • Do you get some form of reward from it?

I'm after both scriptural reasons if possible, and your personal opinion on why you do it.

Thanks in advance,
Odion :)
The impetus for my preaching is Spiritual Direction. Part of the duties of my office include the proclamation of the gospel to the assembly. I don't necessarily preach to "outsiders," in order to "get 'them' to join 'us.'" The gathered assembly needs to hear the message, as it comes through the one who has been called to proclaim it. I believe that is best carried out through Spiritual Direction.

But when do you know when the assembly is coming to hear the message, or just for the free nachos, so to speak?

I have no control over what people come to hear. Most people assume that there is going to be a sermon preached when they come. Most congregations expect a sermon -- and most expect good sermons.

Why do you preach?

I wouldnt call it preaching, but informing. Why do I inform? So that others might experience the joy I found.

What compels you to inform others of your faith?

That their joy might be full and mine.

Why do you want others to join it?

Why be stingy with happiness.

Is it vanity?

Is it vanity to reflect gods glory? No.

Is it good-intentions, your niyyah?

Usually we judge others by what they do, we judge ourselves by our intentions. Christians judge nothing until the final day.

Do you want to keep hell as empty as possible?

Earth is hell. Its getting fuller by the day.

Is it so people can come to know God?

Well if you found treasure wouldnt you want to share it?

Is it your duty, your obligation?

Yes it is my duty to be happy and persue the same joy in others.

Do you get some form of reward from it?

Yes, my joy increases.

HE HE...The gospel is called GOOD NEWS. Wouldnt be any good news if it meant being misserable.
