Never had goats myself.
Though when I lived in West Virginia I knew many a household that kept at least two goats because the claim is that the mere presence of goats deters copperheads.
My ex and her husband have goats. Insufferable self-entitled jerks, they are. And so are the goats.
When I lived in WV, most who had goats had them as substitutes for lawn mowers.
