"When a high school student arrived to her senior prom in Tennessee, she was met with a surprising request: to leave.

Last Friday, Amy "spent time looking for the perfect dress, got her hair done and was meticulous in putting her makeup on," Tiffani Taylor, a friend of Amy's, wrote on her Facebook page. But despite looking "like a princess," she was turned away from the school dance because her dress - an off-the-shoulder embellished tulle gown - was deemed "too revealing."

To Taylor, it was clear that it wasn't the dress that the Maryville High School administrators were uncomfortable with - it was Amy's body type.

After spending some time in the restroom crying, she was told she could go in if she wore the vice principal's tux jacket, which mind you, did not cover her chest. She was told by a teacher repeatedly, "Us big girls gotta cover up." This young girl was SHAMED for having breasts. Her excitement during this memorable time of her life turned into embarrassment at the hands of adults who are supposed to be leading her.

Of course this happened in Tennessee, one of those states I've always considered kind of uptight, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. But c'mon people, do you really find a little breast cleavage that arousing? Maybe a moment or two in a cold shower would help.

So, what do you people think?

Would you approve of your daughter going to a high school senior prom in such a dress?

"Too revealing my arse!"
It seems to me that some person(s) kicked her out for being heavy and
the dress was an excuse.
I've seen much more revealing dresses even at my prom back in 1964.
Dang! I AM old!

Methinks some teacher(s) had a Holstein complex!
We she having smaller breasts the dress would have never been noticed by some prude.
The girl might be on the heavy side but well proportioned and VERY PRETTY.
She can be my daughter anytime and I'd be proud.

That dress is actually pretty conservative compared to many I've seen. The only 'risque' part of her we can see is her cleavage and, let's be honest, how out of the ordinary is that? So many dresses or even regular items of clothing are there out there which don't offer views to a woman's bust these days. It smacks of body-shaming on the part of the school and grown adults - particularly the "us big girls gotta cover up" woman should know better.

I wouldn't mind my daughter wearing a dress like that - it covers everything except her cleavage and her shoulders (and to that, why do people kick up a fuss about strapless dresses?). It's about as pointless as people tut-tutting at girls wearing backless dresses. My only reaction is: "...why?".

I wish we had an e-mail link to tell whoever booted her out how WE feel
and to lend support to that poor child!

We have to remember these are teenagers; and teen aged boys, who are simply lumps of hormones with legs, are easily excited. Honestly, she looks like a brothel madam from a bad western movie. How would you feel about the boys wearing cod pieces.

This incident just jogged my memory of a post I made back in 2012 about an abusive parent at a high school prom I attended.

"This abuse of power reminded me of a high school prom I went to.

At the door was a parent acting as gate keeper, making sure all who entered had an admission ticket. Well, this chap, taking it upon himself, refused to admit a girl because he decided the dress she was wearing was too revealing. The dress itself really wasn't the issue, but that her ample bosom couldn't be hidden to the extent he thought decent. In school she always dressed nicely and was a fairly quite and somewhat wholesome girl, but that night she was quite a knockout. Of course word of the ongoing incident quickly spread---she and her date were trying to talk some sense into the guy---and a bunch of us gathered around the entryway to led her our support. But the guy was quite adamant in denying her entry to the dance unless she covered up or went home and changed her dress. Fortunately, the principal was quick to take charge, letting the girl enter and then taking the parent aside for a talk.

Ever since then I am immediately repulsed and angered by anyone who uses their position of power to enforce their opinions.

Omg!!!! The tops of her busom are exposed!!!!

And that miniskirt she's wearing!!! Its far to high to meet appropriate decency standards for a young lady. It must be made waaayyyy lower.

You do realize that you have revealed so much more about yourself in that post than you did about her or even teenage boys, right?

I wonder why there are not pictures presented of the other dresses worn at said prom.......

Joking aside that dress is gorgeous. A prom is/was a special event and her prom dress fits the occasion wonderfully. Something to reflect upon with photos and memories when she reflects back in her later years and shares with her childern if she has any.

Now her memories will consist of a prudish school system gone bat**** crazy.

I did a google search and only came up with one, which showed a girl in a low cut black dress, which looked just as low cut if not more so.

Why not? Codpieces were worn centuries ago in many European societies, which is about as "traditional" and conservative as it gets.

EDIT: This also sounds eerily similar to the Islamic perspective of "Men are lustful animals who cannot control themselves, ergo the Women must wear the Niqab".

I think the story is sad. I am aware that many young women think long and hard about the right dress to wear. Some even spend a lot of money. I think she looks beautiful and I think it was not easy for her. The man causing her trouble is a devil imo.

Oh please. We have our Prom a year younger than Americans and the boys and girls behaved themselves. And our dresses were FAR more revealing.
