This Is What You Get From Those Without Experience Or Thinking The Issue Through

Seems that members of the Biden administration and Biden, who probably couldn’t pass a mentally cognizant test, wants the US military more “climate friendly” to the point of all electric vehicle fleet by the 2030’s. Have these people stopped and thought how they would charge a EV mechanized army on the battlefield? Something tells me they haven’t; they are two focused on EV’s to see the problem. Does anyone think a total EV military, not counting the air and sea assets, actually work without a major scientific breakthroughs in energy sources.

Note:

I would have used ABC, CBS,CNN, or NBC as a source but they are not covering this.

Are you familiar enough with the technology to explain why this is a bad idea?

Why we couldn’t swap batteries instead of refill tanks? Why combustion offers better or more efficient energy in the types of vehicles we are discussing? Do we know what technologies our military possess to determine whether this is or is not possible, practical, and more efficient?

Hell, I am not even sure that an all electric fleet would be more environmentally friendly. Are you?

Well to start with... an electric cars weighs around 4 tons. A tank weighs around 55 tons.

I guess I should take that as a no. And when I said tank earlier I meant fuel container, but tanks have fuel tanks too, so no problem we would need to discuss those as well I suppose.

What percentage of the US military's vehicles are combat vehicles? Feel free to give a ballpark answer.

Please also feel free to explain why, say, a stateside military logistics warehouse shouldn't have electric-powered jitneys, and why you think that the vulnerability of requiring a steady stream of fuel tankers coming into military installations is one you think isn't worth addressing.

- Batteries lack the energy density of oil. This would either expand
the vehicle envelope & weight, or reduce range.
- Swapping batteries would have to occur more often than refueling.
This poses a greater risk of becoming disabled in battle.
- Battery pack swapping would require large hatches, which poses
design problems to address survivability, vehicle weight, cost, &
performance.

Note though that energy efficiency in military vehicles is crucial
because of the incredibly high cost of getting fuel to the field
during a battle.

Edit...
Using ultra-capacitors instead of batteries might allow rapid
charging instead of battery swaps. But the technology isn't
here yet.

Most military vehicles aren't combat vehicles.

The vehicle needs of a big military base are pretty similar to the vehicle needs of a big college campus. The tanks are the most spectacular part of the fleet, but they're a small part of it.

Even in-theatre in wartime, the stat I remember is that for every 1 front-line soldier engaging in actual combat, there are about 7 other personnel in support roles: logistics, maintenance, medical, etc., etc., not counting the support personnel back home.

The term you're looking for is "REMF".

From the other article:

"Tactical vehicles will first go hybrid, using a mix of fossil fuels and electricity, before making a full transition, while about 170,000 non-tactical cars and trucks used on military bases could go right to electric, Hicks said while touting the climate initiatives at Wayne State University in Michigan."

Looks like I read the first linked article and you read the second one.

Nuclear is an option. Nuclear subs are incredibly effective.

Golf carts are better used to help people make their way across the links or in bumper car amusement park rides. IMO.

I worry people with no experiencei in warfare, making war machines.

What could go wrong?

Experience is useful, but not essential.
But intelligent innovative planning is.
Remember....I'm a draft dodger, but that
that dint stop me from designing weapons.
Making military vehicles all EVs is a false primary goal.
Primary goal should be to do the job of winning conflicts.
Without compromising that, EVs can be considered.
