This Week in Rape Culture:

A somewhat relevant news item I found....
Study: Pedophiles’ Brains ‘Abnormally Tuned’ To Find Young Children Attractive « CBS Atlanta
Nothing really surprising in it, but it broaches the issue of a neuro biological component of inclination
to rape, & that we should consider sexual desire as a motivating factor in a percentage of sexual
assaults, not just power/domination.

It's not that they have abnormal brains, it's that us regular folks have neurotypical privilege. You see, in reality we're oppressing pedophiles byconstructing a world where it's abnormal for a person to be sexually attracted to children.

Well, I am a neurotypical bigot who wants to oppress child molesters.
I'm authoritarian this way.

I was thinking of parodying the culture of blame by taking offense at your calling him a "dick" (male reference), but I don't think the humor would work. Hmmmm....if we can freely use the word "dick", why cannot we use the exact counterpart "c***"? Our male privilege isn't all it's cracked up to be, eh.

Note: Even "c * * t" didn't get past the software censor program without adding the spaces.

Yu no nuffin.

Yer got winkles...... and wueys. (articulated as in (chop)-suey only with a 'w'.)
See? Not censored at all.

Polecat....? Much more beautiful and impressive than a polecate. If you doubt that, just look at my avatar picture, FGS.

So because they're narcissistic pigs that makes this a thread for the men's issues DIR?
Yes it does, for that exact reason! This issue belongs here, not on a feminist sub-forum, or even a general news thread.

We've been treated to a series of anti-feminist themes in recent years, following the general line that focusing attention on these extreme crimes is applying collective blame to all men....and it's not! But, my point is that, if we are discounting the harms of more mild levels of misogyny, and not calling guys out for using intimidation to have their way; taking the guy's side when rape or sexual assault hasn't been determined in a court case; excusing abusive behaviour and/or comments about how a woman dresses or her appearance...etc., we are feeding the beast if we don't push back and acknowledge that modern society is not a level playing field between men and women!

There are few circumstances where men are victimized or women have an advantage - for the most part, the advantages are still on the side of men, and becoming more so, as previous reforms to make society more equal, more gender-neutral, and safer for women are being steadily chipped away at, and cut back by increasingly ruthless and conservative political forces, in their general attack against 'liberalism.' We will all lose from this slide backwards, but as a group - the female half of the population has more to lose in a society that becomes less liberal, less tolerant, more hostile and violent, than men are put at risk.

The first guy was a psychopath. He would've used whatever social excuse he could to harm others. The sex stuff was really just an excuse for his malignant behavior.
Did you notice that as information came out about him and his motives, that he already had a like-minded community of supporters? I didn't even know that when I started this thread! I just expected it, because like the relationship between O'Reilly and his "Tiller the baby killer" theme a few years back, eventually some nut goes beyond what the rest of the ******** are willing to do!

In the less serious (since it's not life-threatening) attack on the Japanese singers, as of yet, we don't have a motive or a bio of the suspect provided by police authorities, but I'm expecting pretty much the same thing when we do learn some details: a loner, loser narcissist, who blames women collectively for his loneliness and has a supportive community to commiserate with.

What I do find disturbing so far about the Japanese story is this:
AKB48 is part talent show, part pop act, a venture in which a pool of more than 100 girls and young women compete for a spot in the limelight when each new catchy, but formulaic, hit is released.

The group - one of the most successful acts of all time in monetary terms - is built on their being accessible to their legion fans, appearing at regular events all over the country to shake hands and pose for pictures, as well as on social networking sites.

Members must strive constantly for popularity if they wish to retain their spot, and girls who contravene strict rules - such as having boyfriends - are punished by being dropped back into the general talent pool.

Where line-up changes often sound the death-knell for musical acts, the frequent rotation of AKB's members is key to keeping them at the top of their game in Japan's fickle pop scene.
Seems like these girls are jail bait set up for stalker predator fans.

Musicality based assault reminds me of good ole Susan McClary again....
From Wiki...
In the January 1987 issue of Minnesota Composers Forum Newsletter, McClary wrote of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony:
The point of recapitulation in the first movement of the Ninth is one of the most horrifying moments in music, as the carefully prepared cadence is frustrated, damming up energy which finally explodes in the throttling murderous rage of a rapist incapable of attaining release.
I always thought old Ludwig van was just a romantic or classical composer. But this might
explain Anthony Burgess' choice of the Ninth Symphony as the theme for Alex's music fueled
sexual assaults in A Clockwork Orange. Whooda thunk it?

I'm still waiting for people to connect it to video games or whatever music he listened to
Or, what about Gonzo Porn? I wasn't even aware of how extreme the porn industry has become since the days we had skin mags and 8mm. stag movies.

You mentioned video games - are you aware that the war games...the especially violent and bloody war games desensitize the viewer to similar violence in real life? Obviously, not everyone who plays video games or watches aggressive porn that simulates rape is going out to become a rapist/murderer. But, I'm getting sick and tired of the excuses coming from those who want these influences completely discounted! The courseness and self-centeredness of modern culture is having negative effects on all of us, and some people are more prone to these effects than others.....those living in denial of them, are the most affected!
Why can't we just say he's a complete dick who bought a gun and acted like a complete dick with a gun? Done, explained. He's not emotionally damaged, he's not abused by his parents, he's wasn't influenced by media, it's not because he could get a gun easily, he's not some poor kid who snapped from being tormented by bullies, you know, maybe he's just an *******.
It's already been established, that my original hunch was correct as I expected: this guy didn't exist in a vacuum and had an online supportive community of misogynists saying much the same thing as he did!

I'm actually addressing a scholarly feminist work by discovering its thesis in a great & popular work of
literature. Of course, a little fun may be had in pointing out that "rape culture" is often too broadly
applied a term. Tis a legitimate point, & I'm abusing no posters in the forum, nor is this a derailment.

It has nothing to do with the subject!

You are right. This is a men's issue. Just not in the way you think.
The young man was torment by the girl he loved and he didn't understand it.
Could he have told someone what she was doing to him? One might want to say yes, until they realize the mentality behind the situation.
But it's easy to blame patriachy. Oh so easy.
But we forget feminism is just as to blame.
And so, all the adults that failed this young man, not patriarchy, not feminism, but men and women.

Yeah, I know. I saw some approving comments on his "retribution" video on YT.

It's no secret that Japan is a sexually warped, sexist society. They're obsessed with loli and deviance in general.

What you talking about? There was no girl that he loved according to all the videos he released.

Great, this crap is spreading:
Male Entitlement Is a Deadly Drug

Ugh. Those people need to drop the ideology for a second and learn about psychology. The dude was just a psychopath. Plus, he didn't only hate women. He said he hated anyone that had/has sex. In that way, he reminds me of another full-blown psychopath - Eric Harris. In his journals, he would rage against every group you could think of. In one entry, he would have you think that he's a racist because of the stuff he says about non-whites but then another entry is all about hating white people. That's how psychopaths are. They don't hate just one group of people. They view themselves as a species of one and all other humans are just objects that they get angry at when they aren't treated in a way that befits their grandiose egos.

As you'd stated, he was a malignant narcissist. He was angry at people having sex because he wasn't having it, as "magnificent" and "divine" as he saw himself to be.

So, he wanted to quarantine women away from society (since women are nothing but beasts), take away their rights, have the majority of them starve to death (which he stated he'd enjoy watching), and then keep just a few of them for reproductive purposes by artificial insemination. He said by corralling women and killing most of them off, mankind will be able to evolve by being free from the distractions of sex and love.

Then he said how he'd punish everybody. Because it will be glorious. The world was unfair that obnoxious brutes were having sex with beautiful women, but he being magnificent wasn't getting any beautiful women. And his day of retribution was to punish the world.
