Thought Experiment: Would you stay at home if someone told you to?

Which of these are applicable to you?

  • 1. I would trust/obey THE DOCTOR and stay inside.

  • 2. I would trust/obey MY COUNTRY'S LEADER and stay inside.

  • 3. I would trust/obey MY RELIGIOUS LEADER and stay inside.

  • 4. I would trust/obey THE POLICE and stay inside.

  • 5. I 'd trust NONE of these people. Nobody can tell me to stay inside if I don't feel like it.

That's not what I've seen in the news about the current curfews in US cities.

About the masks? He (VA) said in the last updated conference (response to a reporter's question) that he doesn't see the reason for law enforcement to fine people who decide not to wear masks. It's not a legal issue for citizens. Businesses who do not adhere to the law can be fined.

Religious leaders are utterly irrelevant to me. The police I do not trust. With government agencies I like too see independent research backing up their claims. Which means I would put most weight amd considerations into what the doctors are saying.

But people do get attacked by law enforcement for being outside during curfews.

I never heard that around here. Police seem like they have better things to do. Even when we had a rally protest here over George, police didn't beat people up (we don't have enforced curfews from what I gather). They did shield themselves as if they were fighting a war seen or something. People were just throwing bottle cans and things like that. Peaceful protest, I guess. It was late at night but we didn't hear about curfews on the news related to it.

Police beating people up is illegal. I'm not sure how that connects with the general curfew rule that may be more enforceable in some areas than others. I think they would probably be if businesses shut down at the curfew time. We haven't done that to make it appearance. People still drive around as if there was nothing wrong. The only thing different here is the masks and businesses changing their store hours.

Perhaps if the police were using the curfew as a secondary means by which to break up a protest--to go after people not actively protesting. Otherwise, if a police officer attacked anyone simply for being out during a curfew, that officer would most likely find themselves out of a job and facing charges.

There is no reason to use the conjunctive form, this actually happened and was recorded.

I was intending it to mean going out in public/among other people - if you want, you can assume that doctors/police/government/clergy would think of your garden as an extension of your home.

I already tend to avoid going out in public, so...
(at least among humans; trees are another story)

When would you accept a command to stay in your own home, and to not go outside (except in cases of serious emergency)?

I've basicly been doing that for the past 2 months, as have the majority of other folks.

Which of these figures would you trust?
1. A renowned doctor or medical expert tells you that it's not healthy to stay outside. They say that you need to stay inside your home in order to avoid becoming ill, or to spread illness to others.

2. Your country's political leader tells you that in order to serve your country, you need to stay inside. They remind you that all good patriots have accepted that necessity and agreed on it.

3. Your religious community leader tells you that it is God's will for you to stay at home and not go outside. They are calling on your faith, and tell you to trust in God and obey this command.

4. The police tells you that for law and order to be preserved, you need to stay in your home at all times. They say that it is illegal to go outside, and it would have serious consequences if you choose to disobey them.
How would you react?

In all cases I would require more detailed argumentation and preferably also some evidence in support of their claims, to justify inhibiting my freedom like that.

Except in case 3. I don't care what religious leaders have to say on religious grounds.

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
I would have to see that it is in my best interest and then comply with police/doctor/leader. There's a matter of trust involved.
