To end the election tonight

Did Trump knock it out of the ballpark? No. A tight and fiery speech might have done the trick...

Instead, he gave a long, rambling, sedated yet still contentious presentation, in which he seemed to be reading off the teleprompter, and got virtually none of the overwhelming cheers and chants he expects at every full stop. He looked and sounded like the tired old man that he is. (in my opinion)

His base probably loved it. I doubt that he appealed to any of the independents he needs to win over...who are also uninterested in voting for Biden
One thing I'll give you is that political speeches no matter what party in general is pretty boring and dull.

They are all artificial and canned , and what peeves me most off about these idiotic speeches is the fact that after every god dammed sentence uttered, people have to clap and go ra ra with every single pause.

Well yeah, he's likely on some potent painkillers for his injury. You could hear it in his voice.

Trump wouldn't listen to his attorney is his trials, but made them go in front of judge and jury and repeat the same nonsense he was spewing in front of the cameras.

The same thing happened with his speech at the convention. His handlers convinced him to say some things that they thought might attract the undecided voters. Those part are noticeable in the first 20 minutes and the last 20 minutes of his speech. The other 53 minutes were just rehashes of his rally and social media statement. The same old grievances: the election was stolen, I didn't even know Stormy Daniels, E Jean Carrol I never met before, Biden has weaponized the government against me, etcetera, etcetera, ad infinitum. He is trying to shore up his base when he needs to broaden the tent. He is still in primary mode rather than general election mode.

He has not changed. He is totally incapable of self-reflection or introspection. He still wants to control the narrative despite advice to the contrary.

For sure, which is sad and scary. Conservatives do not run the R party any longer, but neo-fascists.
I could say the same is true of Democrats as it's known that people are saying that it's not the same party your grandfather had.

I'm just glad I've had more years behind me now than the years in front of me because my personal feelings on the matter is we're fast heading to a massive dystopian world that includes this country.

Yes, which is why I ditched the Ds almost 20 years ago and became an independent.

I think that Trump loves all Americans, regardless of their political convictions.
I am afraid many politicians on the other side vote for the left because they dislike the fellow Americans that don't share the political views.
I can be wrong, but nobody has tried to convince me I am wrong.
:)

PS: I love all Americans, regardless of their political convictions.

This sounds like a no true Scotsman to me, it's entirely possible to be a conservative *and* a fascist in my view.

You are not an American, right? When I say conservative I mean "traditional conservative/Republican." In general, though, you are not wrong.

I didn't say they did agree, I said Trump could say that and considering the shambles the Dems are right now, it might work.
Fair enough, you could be right.

There are probably a good number who are leaning his way already; a measured speech appealing to shared values etc etc might have been enough for them to convince themselves that they wouldn't be making a big mistake by giving him another bash at the job.
