Too many Atheists?

Hey everyone,
Has anyone noticed how many Atheists there are on these forums? I feel that outnumber the spiritual / religious / whatever people by many. I don't understand why an Atheist would join a religious forum if they were proud and had no intentions of searching for themselves. I just don't see how its a good use of time to be a proud and staunch Atheist and then frequent these forums. Just a thought, what are yours?

Not too many atheists, but too much interest in finding ways to challenge religion, rather than learn about it.

Perhaps this should be the Religious Challenge Forum. ;)

Greetings & welcome aboard!
Too many atheists...no way. Too many posters who are uncivil & combative...yes, including us heathens.
We tend to notice that which ranckles us, so perhaps that explains your perception of a plethora of peevish heathens.

Maybe you guys are right, but in general (sadly, a generalization) I've seen that most of the Atheists here are hellbent on challenging every mundane belief of one's religion rather than learning about how great they can be. Not the case for everyone, of course!

You must admit though, that even some of the more mundane beliefs really invite being challenged.
And there are just so gosh darn many beliefs...many thousands of details in the dogma.

To challenge something is part of the most sincere forms of appreciating same.

Of course, it can also be part of the worst, most disrespectful forms of disregard.

But then again, so can superficially respectful silence, or even blind acceptance.

The bottom line is that we only bother to challenge that what we care about. And most of us atheists do care a lot about our supposedly opposite religious, spiritual people. Or, at least, we do care about them enough to not be dismissed as "unenlightened" so casually and so bluntly as we often are.

It turns out that in Real Life (TM) it is not usually possible to act on that desire as often or as widely as it is here in ReligiousForums.

Besides, is there any better way of learning about religion than by challenging it? People shouldn't be afraid of questioning, and I don't understand why religion would.

I agree with that thought. But how to stop those who are genuinely seeking to join RF? I think most if not all of the atheists currently registered at RF are just here to amuse themselves and to troll.

Honest question: in which significant way does that make us any different from the non-atheists?

There are rude and obnoxious Atheists here. There are also rude and obnoxious Christians, Muslims, LHP's, JW's etc, etc....

This forum is more open than any other religious discussion forum I have yet to see. that is why I think it is the best forum I have had the pleasure to participate in.

If one does not want their ideas challenged by as many religious variables possible, including the non-religious, they should probably not be here. There are more restrictive forums available that cater to specific religious ideals.

I think that's not the case. It just happen they post a lot of interesting and challenging topics in this forum. They make the discussions here "alive" (in my opinion). As long as it's a healthy discussion and I learn from it, I don't see anything wrong with that.

They don't bite anyway, don't worry.:D

They do bite. That's the problem. There's a difference between keeping things alive and trolling for the purposes of self-amusement.

I didn't realize there were so many threads on this subject so I apologize. However, maybe that stresses the issues with it? When I first discovered religiousforums.com, I thought myself, "this is incredible, finally I can discuss my passion of comparative religion and learn about others without being heckled by the secular". However, just about every thread I post in, I find an Atheist who is sitting there and just making fun of someone's understanding of God. It's a little disheartening and makes me realize that this forum was a bit of a pipe dream I suppose. I don't agree with all religions, but I don't put it out there every moment of my life. I step back to learn.

Careful, It's very easy to just dismiss everyone through an ad hominem.

The other side can always reword and say the exact same thing. The fact of the matter is, this forum is for education. It's not to pat each other on the back and feel better about ourselves.

Again, I wonder if you see any significant difference between atheists and non-atheists in this regard. Would you like to comment on that?

No offense, but such suggestions are along the lines of, "If you don't like living here, move to another country." i.e., unhelpful.

Maybe some of them, but not all.

Better that than keep on posting and insisting that "evolution is false";)
