Too many Atheists?

Hey everyone,
Has anyone noticed how many Atheists there are on these forums? I feel that outnumber the spiritual / religious / whatever people by many. I don't understand why an Atheist would join a religious forum if they were proud and had no intentions of searching for themselves. I just don't see how its a good use of time to be a proud and staunch Atheist and then frequent these forums. Just a thought, what are yours?
Awwwwww... someone got whipped in a debate.

Yes, there are many active atheists here...we became a minority. :D
Don't think of it as theists vs. atheists... think of it as Christians vs. non-Christians, Muslims vs. non-Muslims, Hindus vs. non-Hindus, Buddhists vs. non-Buddhists, Taoists vs. non-Taoists, etc.

Almost all of the time, you and I are in the same majority. :D

You forgot the Gays v's the straights, LHP vs RHP and Girls vs Boys vs it's complicated not to mention M vs Everyone.

This is a potential cage fight worthy of pay per view.

Personally, I don't find much of a relationship between brand of faith (or lack thereof) & being a jerk.
I find friends & louts in every group, & I've never quantified the frequency of occurrence by group.

Well.....socialists & commies are all mindless jerks. Just kidding!

We all bring our biases to the party, and then we remember best the people who confirm to those biases, also getting our butts handed to us in an argument tends to make one feel outnumbered.

It reminds me of how they bill some cricket matches, actually... like "West Indies vs. the rest of the world". :D

True dat! I find it useful to avoid arguing & debating because they tend to inflame. If I seek merely to understand someone's different perspective,
& to convey mine, then there's less rancor. Of course, I don't always wallow in such equanimity...a good flame war can sometimes be so satisfying.
(But I try to get on civil terms after the carnage ends. I've made some friends that way.)

Waaahhhhhh....you hurt my feelings!!! There are to many capitalists on this forum!!!;)
My apologies. I just got my 2009 fed tax return submitted before the Oct 15 final deadline. With that & the state of the economy,
I'm fuming & fulminating more than normal....at least what's normal for me.

I have to say in PVE1's defense that I wasn't prepared for this forum when I joined it either. But I realized that is was more because I BELIEVED without thought to it since that is what I was taught from a very young age.
Atheists, in particular, really made me think twice about my views. And it was a very weird experience to have to sit back and think that maybe my line of thinking wasn't correct or similar to anyone elses. It was a very strange sensation so I can see why he would think that atheists on this board seemed attacking.
And when you don't know someone and they say something that goes against everything you have ever believed in it feels very attacking, whether they mean it that way or not.

So, we should do what? Pretend atheists aren't welcome?

I get what you're saying. I don't get why you would defend someone whining about how our atheist friends shouldn't be here.

I don't think that he is whining about how they shouldn't be here. He doesn't understand it all yet and how it works together.

Like I said, it is a misconception when you join a religious forum and you have atheists (who you don't think are religious) batting ideas at you. You just don't expect it is all.

I think this thread will be good for him to read and understand a little better.

After some of my initials posts I stopped posting for a bit and just read things. That allowed me to see the dynamic of things on here and not get offended by people. PVE1 just needs to do that.

Religious forum is kind of a misnomer, it is Religious Education Forum. There are lots of other forums that either don't allow atheist members or only allow them lesser access to the forum, perhaps it would be more to some peoples liking.

It is, sort of. "Maltheism" is the actual belief.

Although I maintain that belief in god has very little to do with either religion or the absence of same, anyway.

Maltheism or Satanism? The latter is more directly and focussedly about hating God, I think.

(And by Satanism I mean actual Satan worship, not this LaVeyan poseur stuff)

I'm here on RF to offer guidance and wisdom to poor, misguided souls out of selfless altruism, love and compassion.

The only wisdom I could hope to pass on (on these forums) is the wisdom to think for yourself.

Pretending my view is better than another persons is pointless. If I can show "you" how to think for yourself but "you" still come up with conclusion X, Y or Z, that's fine! I just want to see people believe in something they truly believe in, and not something they have no idea about.

I was being tongue-in-cheek.
