Transexuality and Religion

What is it about Transgender that gets peoples panties in a bunch worse than homosexual marriage? How many have actually researched the topic or got to know someone who is trans?

Wiki states - Evidence suggests that people who identify with a gender different from the one they were assigned at birth may do so not just due to psychological or behavioral causes, but also biological ones related to their genetics, the makeup of their brains, or prenatal exposure to hormones.

This fits with my understanding of Transgender.

My heart kind of melted when I saw this yesterday, especially when it came to how her dad talked about her. This is a guy that truly loves his kids. I have never heard anything like this before when it comes to trans and religion -

Those that take the Bible literally believe that gays and transgender folks must choose it, since if they didn't, the Bible might have errors.

Transsexualism and transgenderism aren't mentioned in the Bible. Unless you're using transgender in the umbrella term way which makes it cover just about everything except the kitchen sink.

Thanks for sharing this, dgirl. It was a beautiful video. She's so blessed to have the support of her family and to be able to transition, especially financially able as that's a real privilege. They're beautiful people.

I have the same problems being a transsexual Catholic. The Church has pretty much the same teachings on this as the LDS church does. I want to marry a woman someday so I'll have to look for a progressive priest to help me with that when the time comes. We'll see.

I was literally in tears by the end of it when the dad teared up and I thought she was just so beautiful.

I sent them to an atheist podcaster who is ex mormon and it had him in tears too :)

I hope that one day these topics will no longer be an issue.

I found it interesting that in Iran the Ayatollah Khomeini wrote issued a fatwa allowing for gender reassignment surgery and many more are done in Iran compared to most other places. It just goes to show the complexity of religious doctrine in some cases.

Transgender is the new kid on the block to kick around until it fights back. Some people simply don't like different. Especially new different. And new different that makes them think.

I saw that video a few days ago, and thought it was very touching, too. I wish more parents of transgendered kids could be as loving and compassionate as this your girl's family is. Here is another similar one -- again, this is a Mormon family. Both of these young people are lucky to have been born to the parents they were born to.

Three things I want to point out before I post my reply, 1 don’t plagiarise what I say even with text cross reference, 2 I took a extra module on gender roles for a pass though it is not my usual forte, and thirdly this condition is not an issue to be associated with the devil’s work and dose no good as has been in the past with varied cross male and female images.

Saint Frankenstein, I agree with what you say though it is a lot more complex than a medical condition, like hermaphrodites which are people born with two genitalia female and male’ this change takes place in the womb and is a genetic mutation resulting in an extra chromosome causing a female to feel more male or a male to feel more male, over the years the chromosome manifests itself in a stronger outward pattern causing depression, lack of social identity, and the inability to socially categorise oneself , Dr Steiner a DNA and genes dysphoria specialist has compiled a selection of works on the very issue, also see DNA & Chromosome text patterns, toward their later age they can become socially problematic and dejected from social conforms leading to crime, imprisonment, or even suicide, the origin of the chromosome mutation is passed on from a particular parental member, it is worth knowing that mutation is not a dirty word it is the process in which humans are said to evolve to higher beings, from fishlike creature that crawled onto the earth and finally walking upright as humans , this subject is given to the argument of the atheist/scientist, with religion it is matter of what is formed in the womb has human right to exist and live, I have posted pic of the mutation and evolution from fish to man for argument sake, the medical board have an extensive practise which allows them to observe the human change over a period of two years for an full adult and three years for persons legally turning eighteen (like I said I used this module for extra credits, not application) this condition is not to be mistake for homosexuality, the homosexual to all intense purposes and in fact are only defined by sexual desire and there is no competent or reliable proof of any cell, gene, chromosome or DNA mutation within them to date, it is also worth noting that homosexual do try to escape the social dilemma by trying to attain physical change often leading to beatings or suicide, No I am not a homosexual and this is not an excuse to steal person’s of this condition from anyone, I just had to have a go at using what I had learned , as I was saying I studied gender roles many many years ago for extra credit, also covering women’s right such as Emily Pankhurst, Maya Angelou which bare no real relation to the issue being discussed , social positions of the woman the resemblance regarding the refusal of rights for the woman as mirrored in the slave before emancipation.

(My foot notes: it was the church that believed it was the devils work , just as it was they believed it was a sin to fly or that people with mental illnesses and deformities were possessed by the devil before the event of the renaissance)

Mutation evolvement pic beneath for argument sake (C F)

Off topic.

Not even in the slightest. And your perfunctory dismissal betrays a glaring lack of sensitivity to lepers everywhere.

...

You've asserted that (and I quote): "Transsexualism is a medical condition and shouldn't be a religious issue at all."

You'll note that this is not a medical forum, but a religious one. So if anyone is off-topic here, it is the OP and yourself. I'm not going to advocate that this thread be removed, however ... because medical conditions are very often religious issues. Which is why I asked you to explain why the Bible spends so much time talking about leprosy.

...

Now. If you're done avoiding the original question ...

If that's true, would you care to explain why the Bible spends so much time talking about leprosy?

If the leper (sinner) suffered from leprocy (sin) and was healed and told to "sin" no more... Clearly it's talking metaphorically. Sinner set free. Spotted/unclean mind to unspotted/clean mind.
