It is often surgery so that people like you. How many women do you see like this:

That is an optional surgery. Transgenderism does not appear to fit into the same category.

Yeah. As a non-transgender woman, if I went and told my doctor I wanted a metoidioplasty or phalloplasty, he wouldn't just put me on the schedule. I had to suffer a good couple years of seizures before brain surgery was even thought up. Then many insurances, like mine, want a doctors diagnosis before paying for anything like that.

Yes, cosmetic surgery is "surgery for no other reason than to look like everyone else" is called.
Happens quite a lot, actually.

Not all cosmetic surgery is the Hollywood made famous super sized T & A...
Michael Jackson is a good example of normal cosmetic surgery. He was in good mental health.

I was actually quite surprised you have never heard of cosmetic surgery.
I mean, it has been around since at least the 1400's

Not in relation to transgender treatments in addition to hormone therapy and things like that. I've never heard of any doctor that would order such invasive treatments (removing the penis and reconstructing a penis from the vagina) just because someone wants to look different.

I really haven't heard of a good anti-trans argument, really.

I am a gay man. I fought for gay rights long ago, and we've won them. I can marry my life partner should I choose to, but we're so old that was never part of our thinking, and anyway, we're as married as we need to be (and Canada's common law supports that anyway). I want people to accept me -- but I don't demand that people understand me.

I have very good non-gay friends who are quite comfortable with my orientation, but who could never imagine themselves sharing it. And there's no reason that they should -- I can't imagine being them, either.

So here's my take: I can not imagine myself having any desire at all to transition -- but I can accept that another person may feel differently. And more than "feel differently," may actually be compelled and deeply committed to that transition.

And that's all that's needed, in the end. To know that what I feel is good (so long as I harm nobody), and to accept that the same is true for everybody else. I don't need to "grok" trans. I just need to know that somebody else does -- and that that's okay.

Yes, lets. You've already shown us you don't know what that is anyways.

You've gotta funny definition of "good mental health."

It seems I misunderstood you.
My apologies for that.

To anyone saying transgenders are just looking for attention look up the rates in which we are discriminated against...first person I came out to tried to hit me. I know transgender people who are homeless because their parents kicked them out. My family doesn't approve of me being trans and I've lost friends. Why would I be still be transgender if it was just for attention?

Don't take my post wrong. I simply stated if Robert's life as Robert is boring but if he dresses as a woman and calls himself Roberta he gets lots of attention,, is he transgender or just playing s role to get attention.
Take some transgenders that dress say Tom as Cher and Tim as Madonna that sing and get attention,, do you think they would get that same attention singing when being Tom and Tim?

Can I just politely point out that all the accusations of “trans” being a new thing is entirely inaccurate. My culture has recognised it on some level for 6,000 years. There are mentions of non binary folk in folklore and myths of ancient civilisations. like when Ishtar goes into the underworld (Babylonian.)
Just for example. This rigid black and white mentality of the sexes is technically a lot younger, in terms of humanity.

Those are not transgender, they are transvestites. They are not changing their apparent gender, they're changing their clothers. And if they're singing, a lot of people would just call them drag queens.

But to your other point, no, they probably wouldn't get as much attention singing in their street clothes as they do in drag.

That’s transvestitism, not transgender though
