Trump Administration and the Press

So long as his role is just arguing with them, I find it entertaining.
But if this morphs into legislating censorship, let me know, will you?
You got it! There isn't any evidence of that, but I am just doing my part in fear mongering! :D

Btw, I would like to see the elimination of gov funding of media, eg, NPR.
That's just wrong.
Yep! Me too!

If there could be policy to stop funding and denounce media outlets that spread falsehoods, I would be for that.

By no means do I want any sort of censorship, though.
There are quite a few people on this thread who are asking for this very thing. Put me on that last!

Dictators control the media. SIlence opposition, etc. I just find it laughable they call real news fake news now? Fake news calling others fake is funny.

I can't find that on the internet. Only that he is saying it rained on his parade, not even saying that it caused less people to show up, but definitely opening the door that it may have affected the turnout. I I believe there is wisdom in the old saying "don't rain on my parade", because it tends to put a damper on things.

He seems very honest to me, but im sure there are elements out there in society, photoshopping and splicing words together to create lies against the man.
There are a lot of articles referencing the Trump quote claiming "a million and a half" people that he saw. Comparing Trump's inauguration crowd to the Women's March - CNNPolitics.com

That's just one example, but it's easy to find a lot more. Plus, his press secretary flat out lied about the numbers at the inauguration, saying that it was the biggest ever. He made the ridiculous claim that more people watched it than any other in history and provided no evidence to back it up whatsoever.

Trump is an egomaniac and wants to control everything. He wants his image to be liken to a god, and expects everyone to love him. If someone (media or otherwise) says something negative about him, he takes to blasting them with uncontrolled outbursts, only to back peddle hours later when his advisers try and reel him in. He has temper tantrums like a 3 year old child. He needs to put down the phone and forget Twitter, forget what the media says as he is only feeding the trolls right now, and focus on being POTUS.
YES! Exactly. Thankfully, it looks to be getting better in regards to the Twitter out bursts.

Do you know who was a cool headed president? George W. Bush. That man did not care if anyone made fun of him. He would give protesters and anti-Bush signs a thumbs up as he drove by. He was always cracking jokes and ribbing people, and expected it in trade. His staff said that he was always trying to make people laugh and would intentionally act goofy.
I didn't agree with his policies sometimes, but I would love to have a beer with Dubuya!

Not lies against the man. I am saying that he says things that aren't true/accurate constantly. It is pretty easy to find examples. Here are some:

All statements involving Donald Trump | PolitiFact

And, don't cop out and say "I don't trust Politico". You can easily look up the facts and compare them with the statements from Trump and his surrogates.

I don't know, I wasn't watching. It sounds like he needs a new press secretary. The clips I saw of Trump speaking were full of humor and humility, not boasting or anything like that.

I just provided the quote. Are you saying that because you personally didn't see him say it that he didn't actually say it?

About Madonna threats to blow up the White House was a staged performance. They had posted online part of what she had said, in order to get the President to bite. And once he has taken the bait, then they posted whole video. And so the President did not make a mistake at all.

That has nothing to do with what I was talking about. I was referring to the various fake news stories that were published by outlets that Trump used and actually thanked the publisher on one occasion.

You're pitiful at doing your part!
You need more off-the-deep-end, & less even keel.
Whacha think of my thread title for part two: TRUMP STRIPS RIGHTS OF NEW AGENCIES or TRUMP CREATES NEW TRUTH BUREAU or (my personal favorite) TRUMP IS AWFUL NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES! :p

So he shoots from the hip when he's speaking, He's not launching the space shuttle and he's not on trial. I don't see the problem unless you can show a clip where Trump is being boastful and arrogant about it.

If Obama had said it I would know what context and demeaner because he had only one, arrogant and self centered.

The first one is good.
The 2nd is OK.
The 3rd just sounds sarcastic.

The Trump team have already picked a losing battle if they think that attacking media outlets for dissenting opinions is going to win them any points nationally or globally. We live in the age of the internet - all they are going to do is bolster those voices of dissension and strengthen the resistance to their positions.

How have people still not learned how diplomacy and democracy work?

The thing about media outlets is that they're not supposed to have an OPINION. News and Journalism are meant to spread truthful knowledge to the American people. And frankly, that is not being done.

Modern news outlets cover both (hard) news and current affairs/opinion. In the current affairs/opinion pieces they are supposed to have an opinion. In the (hard) news pieces they are supposed to be objective, but this ideal is impossible to achieve as any story is subject to framing, choice of sources, etc. (and always has been).

The boundary between the 2 genres has been significantly eroded over the past couple of decades though.

Even if you could create a magic journalist who was 100% truly objective, there would still be a degree of bias in news overall as objective coverage of news has an intrinsic bias towards those in positions of power.
