The ever level-headed, and first-rate presidential material, Donald Trump has called for a ban on all Muslims entering the US. What next? Will he propose building a wall around the Middle East, Northern Africa, and Southeast Asia? More seriously, what do you make of this?

New York Times Article.

I see both a constitutional & public relations problem for this policy.
I'll bet your left one that this is pure pandering anyway.

That's pretty much the gist of the Times article. They note that Trump tends to say things like this whenever his poll numbers drop, as they have very recently. They also note the Supreme Court probably wouldn't stand for Trump's proposal.

Mr. Trump has a track record of making surprising and even extreme comments
But we have gotten to the point that such "surprising" comments are not surprising at all. This kind of extreme stupidity is exactly what we expect from Trump.

But will Ben Carson or any of the other republican candidates criticize Trump for this stupidity, or will they agree?

Hey we put Japanese American in camps, who's to say they won't do it to Muslims? I guess the First Amendment doesn't matter anymore. "Oh we have freedom of religion...except for this and that... and that..."

This should be obvious that they are using Muslims as a scapegoat. Americans don't even realize they're being manipulated and have no idea who the real enemy is. Focus on the enemy, not the entire group. Trump can't even call the shots anyway but it's absurd to even think of such an idea, let alone speak it.

Hitler wasn't calling for extermination in 1938. But he was scapegoating people and getting much applause and support for doing so.

I understand.
But where HItler was sincere in his hatred, Trumps antics are mere posturing, & milder at that.

Doesn't rise to Hitlerian levels.
It's one thing to ban them from entering.
That's not as bad as rounding'm up for extermination.
The Nazis didn't go straight from freedom to extermination, though, it was incremental. Each step was slightly worse than the next until it was just like, "let's just put them out of their misery."

No but one thing can lead to another. We did put Japanese Americans in camps. They weren't hurt but it was still wrong for America to do that. With the tension rising, they might do something more drastic. No country is immune to corruption though.

He's better at it than most people.
True dat.
But the interesting thing is that of the people I personally singing Trump's
praises, they're motivated by liking him, & by his positive exhortations.
Could just be the crowd I run with though.

To add: The Nuremberg laws were put into effect in 1935, one of the provisions of which was the revocation of German citizenship for Jews.

Denying someone citizenship and denying them entry sound like two lines in the same song.
