Trump ready to begin drawdown of troops at US-Mexico border

Now that their political purpose has been served, Trump is apparently ending his stunt. That is, he is returning the troops he sent to the US-Mexican border to their bases. The caravans have not gone away, but the need to pretend the caravans represented a dire threat to the US in order to whip up a frenzy in his gullible base has gone away now that the midterms are over.

Trump's use of American troops to influence an election has been described as "unprecedented".

Comments? Questions?

Another out of proportion and overblown story.

The troops were obviously extra manpower and had set up constantine wire and closed gaps.

Things got done and it was mission accomplished ahead of schedule.

Time to move on kiddies.

The troops have gone the same way as the caravans.
All **** electioneering to rally the base.

Another fanboyish attempt to spin everything Trump does as beyond reproach.

I am shocked! Shocked that you ever believed the troops were necessary or had a real mission to accomplish. My gods man! This alters my entire view of Trump supporters. Could it actually be you folks are ...dare I say it?... are a wee bit gullible?

"Lefty"? Al Pacino in Donnie Brasco or Phil Mickelson?

Still, an interesting an eloquent response from an actual fully grown man to the point that disrupting the home lives of thousands of troops and their families for a political stunt and wasting taxpayers money isn't really ethical or the best way to "support the troops".

Even such radically Marxist organisations as the American Enterprise Institute criticised such blatant political theatre.

Stans gonna stan though.

I wonder if being so egregiously used as a prop could turn some military members and their families against Trump?
As well as his actions in France and his assault on a prominent general. Also, money for veteran causes has not met demands as he promised.

I seriously hope this is a joke. First of all, they need to apply for asylum at a port of entry as per law, they need to be in the US, so this idea doesn't even make sense within it's own narrative. They can't be kept out as they are applying to enter legally.

Maybe Trump wanted to avoid the embarrassment of people watching immigrants casually walking past powerless US troops.
They can't legally either arrest or detain.

I hadn't thought of that, sounds hilarious.

So now we can't point out hypocrisy? We knew it was a stunt we are just saying this proves it.

I think that's a good question. I'm not sure it will. I live in a city with five military bases, including one that is home to an army division, and the city's congressional district just returned it's Republican Congress member by 58% of the vote. Also, the local paper is still unequivocally pro-Trump. I live in a liberal enclave in the city that votes against the majority, so I'm not really plugged into the mood of the community as a whole, but from what little I can see, the military here remains pro-Trump.

Even in light of him mocking Navy Seals, not honoring the troops on Veteran's Day? I saw posts online of vets feeling disgusted at his suggestion that troops should open fire on the caravan, among the many other things he has said over his presidency now and in the past. Granted a lot of that has been by shared posts by other vets, that I've seen through a friend's page who's a vet and a liberal, So maybe I'm not seeing enough from more conservative vets.

I'm a conservative "vet", and IMHO Trump is utterly disdainful of military personnel.
