Do make an effort to stay on topic, please.

Of course. Not sure if you knew I was joking but no more from me after this.

I think its good that Trump is reviving a program based on science which could further science. Good for him.

OK, you got me. It's so hard to tell nowadays.

Healthcare for space travel? Usually covered but it may be out of network.
Plus, how do you tell if it was work related?

Competition in any industry is a fantastic thing. Also, I am sure there will be more NASA contracts to be won if this gets more funding. Meaning a stronger private and public sector. From my perspective, it is a win/win all around.

Quetzal, you involved in Aerospace?

I started an aerospace program and have Buzz Aldrin's endorsement. My team and I will be flying experiments up this summer on a sub orbital mission with a partner and will be 3-D printing on the ISS this fall after running a "Print the Future Contest."

We should talk perhaps. :)

Why is this news? Another distraction. Obama set this ball rolling a long time ago.

The rise of private spaceflight
Commercial spaceflight has taken off during the Obama presidency. For example, two different American companies, SpaceX and Orbital ATK, are now flying uncrewed resupply missions to the ISS for NASA.

In addition, SpaceX and Boeing hold multibillion-dollar contracts to fly NASA astronauts to and from the orbiting lab, and both companies should start doing so in the next year or two, NASA officials have said. (NASA has been dependent on Russia to provide such taxi services since the retirement of the space shuttle fleet in July 2011, a move set in motion by President George W. Bush in 2004.)

Such public-private cooperation kicked off with the announcement of NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program in January 2006. But it was "turbocharged" under the Obama administration, which made the development of private crew-carrying vehicles a priority, said Casey Dreier, director of space policy at the nonprofit Planetary Society.

"That, to me, is the biggest legacy [of the Obama administration] — fully embracing the potential of commercial launch capabilities, and really, really making that a priority, and fighting for it against a lot of opposition from Congress," Dreier told Space.com. "I don't think commercial crew was fully funded at NASA until 2015."

Why is this news?
Because the president has expressed interest in wishing to invest financially and politically into space travel. Having the support from the executive branch is a big deal.

I get that. So which MIC player is getting the rewards?

At least he didn't cut the budget the 500 million he wanted too including NASA's education among others since lawmakers said "no."

While it's really good to support the private sector, it's also really important to keep funding NASA.

SpaceX has flown a military mission recently and plans to fly another in 2018.

If it means we get advances in space flight/technologies, does it matter?
It matters if it's a typical lobbyist deal. We just gave the MIC a huge payday with the Saudi deal. Since this is the republican party, I can see lobbyists begging for this. Government funds are sought after by private corporations because gov't funds typically have huge profit margins (low cost)
