Can't get a link to work, but there are reports that Trump is now under investigation for obstruction of justice.

Please discuss!

Trump obstructing the government, or the government obstructing Trump?

Well, you know there is a system of checks and balances. I suggest Trump be more fine tuned with this system because in my view, he's failing to identify where those checks and balances could be coming from.

Can't blame a system that is doing as it's intended.

Otherwise, are you suggesting Trump have more unilateral control?

That CNN link was informative. I particularly noted this. But one key principle is that Trump does not understand he's not above the law and should allow the investigation to take its course.

"Obstruction of justice is not a black-and-white offense, so reasonable minds may well disagree about whether asking Comey to go easy on Flynn rises to the level of what federal law prohibits," Vladeck added.

"But whether the President's conduct is or is not within the letter of the law is irrelevant; there's a really good reason why, for generations, presidents from across the ideological spectrum have respected the principle of not interfering in federal criminal investigations. That President Trump seems wholly indifferent to this principle, or the potentially devastating consequences of its demise, is the real scandal here."

But Andrew McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor who writes for the conservative National Review, said it's premature to judge whether what has been reported rises to the level of obstruction of justice.

I suppose that all depends upon where the legality and intention lay.

True, but the DOJ director apparently does not agree with Trump, to continue an investigation. We have judges that have not agreed with Trump. We have the former FBI director not agreeing with Trump. This is the system in play which Trump and his team has utterly failed to recognize.

I wouldn't expect Trump to understand all these legal and government processes since he is very inexperienced but the team he assembled should have foreseen all of this. He is responsible for his team, success or not.

For when the impingement of Trump? Anytime soon? :)

I think this might be a closed case by the presidental minions until some years pass and Trump goes to other ventures.

Hard to rely on anything reported by the media anymore.

In any case they can investigate all they want. Can't try the POTUS for crimes.

Wrrrrong. Listen, I mean, he's been...he's the President...he's been elected the President of the United States now. And, as we all know, the President can do whatever he wants to do. Otherwise...look, what else would be the point of being the President? The President can do anything. Believe me.

Here's the original story, once again from the Washington Post.

Special Counsel is Investigating Trump for Possible Obstruction of Justice, Officials Say

"The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said."

So, we have the following things being investigated: 1) Russian meddling in our election, 2) whether the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russians, 3) whether Trump obstructed justice, and 4) possible financial misdeeds among Trump's circle of associates.

I was also interested to read that Trump also had asked the head of the NSA (Mike Rogers) and the director of national intelligence (Daniel Coats) to ask the FBI to back off Flynn, and to release a statement that there was no evidence of collusion between his campaign and Russia. Both refused to comply.

Since Trump twice has admitted that he fired Comey because of the latter's Russian investigation, I think we can safely conclude that Trump was involved in an obstruction of justice. Now, whether that would be grounds enough for impeachment is quite debatable, especially since we don't know yet what else may be involved.

There's a good chance that some far more serious matters Trump & Co. may have been involved in, and some of this might include financial ties to Russian banking sources controlled by Putin. Trump has long been known as being sleazy when it comes to paying back loans, so he may have been desperate and used Russian sources that may have been illegal, which is one good reason why he would not put forth his tax returns.

Anyhow, we need to have patience since such investigations normally take many months to years.

lol ... that's why there is impeachment. Congress impeaches the president, removes them from office, THEN tries him for the crime. Crack a book!

While I am happy this investigation is happening, I am going to struggle. If he gets off scott free, I am going to question it because of his political position and corruption. If he get nabbed, it is because the system works.... I think I am the definition of a hypocrite.

Would be telling if Trump and Co. don't add more sanctions to Russia. I bet they don't, even with all the evidence. Far too many russian 'coincidences' prior to the election.

The lovely thing is that Trump would not be currently under investigaion if he had not fired Comey. It might have happened evetually even if Comey had not been fired, but Trump certainly accelerated things with that act.

It's like screaming you're guilty. It also doesn't help he's hinted at firing Comey's replacement (Mueller)
