U.K. Doctors Could Soon Face Action over "Misleading" Social Media Posts

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
And who gets to decide what is dishonest and untrustworthy?
Exactly. What's to say the intention is to supress and accuse others of misinformation in exchange for support and compensation by something else like a big pharma backer or other politically motivated reason?

Who polices the information police?

But anyway, it's adorable who those who've screamed the loudest about "fake news" turned out to be the biggest purveyors of it, and how objective fact-checking became "anti-freedom".

It just goes to show that many on the right behave like teary-eyed brats when their flimsy narrative fails to hold up.

Is it a free independent council , or is it funded and /or supported by another entity in the background? ?

"The General Medical Council (GMC) is a public body that maintains the official register of medical practitioners within the United Kingdom. Its chief responsibility is to "protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public" by controlling entry to the register, and suspending or removing members when necessary. It also sets the standards for medical schools in the UK. Membership of the register confers substantial privileges under Part VI of the Medical Act 1983. It is a criminal offence to make a false claim of membership. The GMC is supported by fees paid by its members, and it became a registered charity in 2001."

Authoritarianism has been, and still is quite a fad with these ******* people.
I don't understand why. I did see people visit NK and China. They are definitely on my "not to do list"

Does too much freedom make people trust too much those in charge?

It is funded by subs from the Doctors themselves. everyone involved is a doctor, except for their own administration staff. every doctor in practice in the UK must be a registered licenced member.
Every doctor has to under go a licencing process every five years to prove that they are keeping their knowledge and skills up to date.

Nonsense. There's multiple areas of medical practice that are highly debated. If one doctor recommended a carnivore diet and another only plants for example, the powers that be could get rid the one who doesn't promote what they want promoted. They can weed out doctors that don't recommend high priced medicine but herbal alternatives. They could literally control the market for drugs by banning the doctor prescribing of the ones that they don't profit from.
You mean unregulated herbal "alternatives" that have not been demonstrated to be efficacious? Yeah, they should be weeded out. People are wasting their hard earned money on that crap that does nothing, and potentially risking their lives.

Nope. Nobody is "arrested". This is not a criminal law.

It is part of the updated code of conduct, issued by the professional body that regulates doctors. The sanction for an infringement would be a formal reprimand, or a suspension or ultimately being struck off the register of doctors, which would mean not being able to practise as a doctor any longer.

And, as someone else has already pointed out, it is nothing new. The requirement not to mislead or make irresponsible statements, as a doctor, already exists. This amendment to the code of conduct merely extends it explicitly into the world of social media.

So we can all* stop hyperventilating.

*apart from the usual idiots, of course.:D
It's quite simple. They just need to start teaching science in American schools.

Haha, but seriously, it's less that than a need to teach that one's right to talk crap on the internet has consequences, if you belong to a profession in which public trust is crucial. It's this very American notion that you must be allowed to do or say whatever you like, and the rest of society can go hang, that is so solipsistic and childish.
