China needs to be restrained from it's internal extreme dictatorship and external aggressive instincts. So to me there's a good geo-political reason for this.
I see supporting human rights elsewhere as useful.
But I lament our failing, & with deadly consequences so often.
Our inattention to domestic civil rights is troubling.

We are trying... The US is in a strange place right now and the issues we are facing are unprecedented. Please know and understand that most of us that live here are not exactly comfortable with how things are going. Saying we are a nation of terrorists... thats hard not to take personally.

The US has wonderful ideals as embodied in the preamble to the Declaration of Independence and the Great Seal to name a couple.
We've be supremely laggard in living up to those ideals but many of us do what little we can to nudge this country in that direction.
But it's true at the same time that an existential crisis is deepening between those who want a positive future and the cowards, traitors, terrorists, authoritarians who are trying to drag us down into being no better than Putin's Russia or Xi's China.
Last year the US was the 2nd most generous nation in the world which does not make headlines but reflects the attitude of the citizens
