Let's see...Italy has welcomed the most Ukrainian refugees. Italy gives these refugees a monthly state aid (we would like to give them more, but we are persecuted by the stingy EU).
We have sanctioned Russia.
We have condemned the act of war.

There are now three blow holes in the pipeline. No one knows for sure who is doing it.
But it is clearly not accidental.
I can not see for sure who would benefit from such an action other than Russia.

Russia could turn off the supply but would bring on tighter sanctions.
Cutting the supply this way, secretly, would, both stop the supply and cause confusion.
But it would not directly cause more sanctions.
However it would damage European industry. Which is probably the intention.
