Victim of acid attack wants her attacker blinded

Marble

Ameneh Bahrami was the victim of an attack with acid by a man whose marriage proposals she turned down.
She now is blind and badly disfigured and wants her attacker to be blinded too, under the Sharia law of Iran.

Article on BBC News with an interview of the victim.

One thing I don't understand:
Why was she not given asylum in Barcelona and brought to an hospital for immediate threatment insted of sending her to a shelter for homless people?
She could have keept her left eye had they not forced her to live in a place with bad sanitary conditions.

This whole situation is sad. It's hard for me to understand the reasoning behind this horrible act of violence.

Aren't you Christian? How is this compatible with your believe?

I don't know. Possibly a sense of justice...

He poured acid on her face, and Iran is a backwards lawless place.

It's better for him to be blinded than go free, and what he did is so dispicable that he deserves to suffer in prison for as long as possible. She is most likely maimed for life. I have no problem with whatever punishment those wacky Iranians can do.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Must be like most modern Christians and just ignores Jesus' words in Matthew 5:38-5:48.

Funny how non-Christians think they know how to intepret and apply Christian Scriptures.

Ok, so I'm not a Christian and I am a woman.
I do not want to see him blinded, but I would like him to have to pay for whatever medical treatment she may need (now or in the future) and I think he should be sentenced to a minimum of 20 years.

I wonder what qualifies you to make this sort of judgment.

Do you have a lifetime of experience attempting to follow the entire New Testament (or the entire Bible)?

Do you believe it now?

I wonder, do you follow the Bible perfectly?

Are you even seminary trained to read Greek and Hebrew?

I wonder if you even give a rat's *** about Christian Scripture other than blindly and arrogantly insulting Christians?

We agree on the sentence. But what if he can't pay?

She's already been treated horribly since the incident, and being a woman I wouldn't think that Iran is going to do anything for her. Even her cries for justice will be ignored, I'm sure.

Wow.

To be honest... I think he should be blinded. She's not asking for his face to be disfigured like hers, as far as I can see, so really, he's lucky in that regard. It was a premeditated attack, he knew exactly what would happen, and he smiled and laughed before he committed the act that he knew would change her life forever.

What would the alternative be? Locking him away in prison for several years, then letting him go out, get married, and have a normal life again? Eh.

The line forms to the left, guys.

Sounds a lot like what's being proposed for him. If it was a heinous crime before, what makes it acceptable now?

... or God forbid, do it to someone else.

I don't think that it is (at least over there). It's not uncommon for women in Afganistan, Iraq, Iran, and Jordan to get acid thrown on them for any number of reasons. And there's no reprecussions unless the guy is a complete bonehead and also can't bribe his way out.

Women are absolutely worthless over there.

I responded to Angellous' posts there since I don't want to derail this thread. Blinding him would be revenge not justice. I agree he should be imprisoned and pay, financially and socially, for his act, but blinding crosses into cruel and unusual punishment territory for me.

Ya think?!
