I suppose that's mentioned in one of the videos? I started watching the first Al-Jazeera one, then Flash crashed. I'll watch it later.I typed " instead of 2.
What I meant to say is that 20 years are 2 centuries and not "some years".
Greece and Rome...regular paragons of virtue. Where pedophillia was commonplace and even a crazy man's horse could rise to the rank of senator.
In the meanwhile, this is an interesting opinion piece: Dominic Lawson: An 'eye for an eye' is proper justice - Dominic Lawson, Commentators - The Independent
"... [there are] 7,800 cases of women who had been deliberately burned, scalded or subjected to acid attacks, just in the Islamabad area. In only 2 per cent of those cases was anyone convicted."

Pedophillia Is a "modern" crime. Even Samuel Pepys conciderd it "safe sex" (for him).
The Idea that sex with a child might be wrong would have been thought strange.
He's in Iran, which may as well be Jupiter, and our constitutional values simply don't make sense there.
I thought that the most effective punishment would be to kill their entire families in front of them and then blind them so it's the last thing that they see. No prison time - just throw them out on the street with nothing, blind and broken. Let them kill themselves if they want to die. It's not too late to do this, but the current system works in favor of the criminals and not the people -- especially if the criminal is rich.
Dead thread?
Not hoping this sounds hostile or anything....
Not this specifically, but as I read down the thread I keep asking myself where you get your information about Iran?
Now... I can't tell if you're serious or trolling man.
Either way, it makes me feel a little ill.
And to answer your question about how it's going to be administered, several weeks ago when I was reading about this the way I understood it was that SHE was going to inject the acid into his eyes, with a needle.
And the way it read about it was 'Iran delivers Old Testement ruling'
I am not sure exactly how I feel about this whole thing....
I can understand the whys and why nots
However, what I can say assuredly is that I hope this is the restorative justice this lady is looking for and isn't something she ends up regretting herself.
I assume she was as 'decent' person before this happened, and it's my fear that after sometime this feeling of revenge will wear off and she'll be left with remorse of doing the same thing she was pained by.
So... cheers man.
I have to say I was a little.... taken aback by what I've read in this thread...
And it is disturbing as it is informative to the inter-workings of the human/religious/scriptural member minds.
Thanks to you all for being open and honest.

I agree with your previous post in that it is disturbing what some religious forum members consider to be "justice"...*cough* angellous *cough*.... I stopped posting because I felt like I was trying to explain to a spanish conquistador that he should appreciate native american cultures. Some people are only interested in the gold!
I responded to Angellous' posts there since I don't want to derail this thread. Blinding him would be revenge not justice. I agree he should be imprisoned and pay, financially and socially, for his act, but blinding crosses into cruel and unusual punishment territory for me.
You've misunderstood the bulk of AE's comments.
I think post #45 is a good summary, and there's some sarcasm in other comments that's related more to people's replies than to the issue.
I was pretty specifically address the quoted material and stand by what I said.
I am unsure of what I 'misunderstood' out of that.
I realize this is a 'fictitious situation' in which he is talking in what I quoted... but still.... I feel it was okay to chime in with a 'what the heck', regardless.
I appreciate your efforts to explain what you feel is being said and why retribution is worth while, at least in this case.

I can't speak for anyone, but it's safe to say Angellous was joking about killing people's families and that the comment was about this discussion, not the issue.
I'm glad you chimed in! And nice hair.
I appreciate your kind reading, but it wasn't a joke and I was addressing the issue.
We're so disconnected in our individualism. In the not-so-distant past, the fate of the entire family rested on the actions of any one member.
The selfish animals that create wars, commit genocide, and destroy economies may care for only one thing in the whole world - their children and families, unless they are completely inhuman.
If this were the punishment for the execs at Goldman-Sachs, it would never happen again. Same thing for the jerks who created the lies that resulted in the Iraqi war. They deserve to have their bodies ripped to shreds, but all they lose for the destruction of an entire nation is their job.
Yes, but this kind of a sh** happens to women only.the fact of the matter is that sh** happens...it happens all the time
