Weathering the Weather

Someone has to plan the Christmas dinner. Yesterday's mission,, getting the various cheeses for the couturie board. Besides a couple that I already have I bot a huntsman, a Stilton, and some 1,000 day Gouda. I wish that I could find the five year gouda that I bought one year. Amazing cheese.
Have you tried Oud Amsterdam? Same idea (there really is only one style of Dutch cheese, just variants on the same theme).

The only Huntsman I've heard of.

I had to google couturie board, closest I could find was charcuterie board.
Yes, for some reason it worked the first time without correction. Weird. This is probably how the Mandela effect works. A person makes a mistake once and does not notice it and then one begins to think that the mistake was the right way.

Might be best to stick with cheese board or finger food in the future :D

How are you weathering the weather these days?

-32 C (-26 F) here currently. The city is at peak electricity use. I limit going out as much as possible, but today was a quick trip to the grocery store, and then Boss had to go to the doctor. Driving, because of ice, is about double the time. AMA (Alberta Motor Association) have a 48 hour wait for towing. Lots of ditched or stalled vehicles, and fender benders. The salt and sand doesn't work when it's this cold. I watch my rear view diligently, and leave a large space between me and the guy in front. If someone is approaching from behind too fast, I can edge ahead and perhaps prevent it. Tons of stupid drivers out there.

But it's supposed to go up to around -10 by Saturday. That will be t-shirt weather.

I got scared just reading your post!
I would not be driving in that weather AT ALL. If there is any snow or any chance of ice I don't go out, but if I have to go out, I walk to the bus stop and take the bus. The buses here are free.
But it's supposed to go up to around -10 by Saturday. That will be t-shirt weather.
UP to around -10? It is 27F here now and will get down to 20 tonight, and that is to cold for me, but that won't last too long since it will be raining and back to 45-55F by Saturday and for the next 10 days. That's MY kind of weather.

Now that is a bit chilly. I am sure that it gets even colder. The coldest that I have ever been in was -29 F that is -34 C. You must have had hit the magic temp of -40. No need for letters on that one.

Yes, I've seen -40. Clothing in layers. I remember doing farm chores as a kid, and with that there was no choice. You can lose a herd of cattle if you don't do it. But we wore layers ... 2 pairs of socks, felt liners for big winter boots, long johns, pants AND overalls, a t-shirt, 2 sweaters, and a heavy parka. The challenge was always the face, but you soon learned to face downwind, and work fast. My chores would get done in half an hour rather that the standard hour plus. We had all kinds of stuff in the vehicles as we were in a place that could mean 3 miles to the nearest other farmhouse. I never had frostbite, but one of my dumber brothers did. He figured he was invincible I guess.

A bit chilly? I just went out to TRY to move my CRV up the hill so it will be on flat/gravel ground when I have to go out tomorrow afternoon and take the cats to the vet, but I cannot open my car door. I came back in and got a pitcher of hot water to pour over the door handle and that helped a little but not enough. I do not want to break the handle because parts for these old CRVs are not easy to get, so I am going to wait till tomorrow and try again. It is not supposed to snow so I should be able to get it up and out of the driveway by midday Any suggestions?

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow -- just not here, and just not when I have to go out.
It is rare to get a white Christmas here, and it looks like we will have a wet Christmas, a high of 53F and rain

Do you have hair dryer and an extension cord?

There's a little box on my computer that's telling me its snowing out(its wrong). There's a blizzard warning. Its blinked with alerts several times today to let me know temps are both rising and falling. Someone who is easily worried would be on the edge of their seat with all the notifications I've been getting. Events are canceled, businesses are closing.

The glass door in my dining room shows a different scene. Its a peaceful and overcast winter day. Not even a slow breeze disturbs the trees. I can't argue that its uncomfortably cold(12F), but its winter. Its the Midwest.

All year, these notifications go, leaving people in a state of unrest. Different phenomenon for different seasons, but a steady flow of hysteria about the weather is a year round thing. Without looking out a window, people plan their days around weather apps and Facebook feeds claiming this or that are projected to happen. Out of twenty events, perhaps only 1 or 2 transpire to the extent at which its predicted(if they happen at all).

While its good to be cautious in dangerous weather, I find any weather these days starts getting people fluffed up. I'm not sure if its from the constant bombardment with information(exaggerated or not) or if the lack of contact with the elements gets people more worried than it used to, but it seems strange to me.

How are you weathering the weather these days?
The news here actually called the weather we're expecting "the Nightmare Before Christmas." I think that was a bit much.

If it's just the lock that's frozen, a bottle of lock de-icer (available at auto parts stores or hardware stores) will help.

Other than that, try every door including the rear hatch. Even if you have to climb in the back and over the seats, once you're in, running the engine and heater should help thaw out the doors and door seals.
