Weathering the Weather

If it's just the lock that's frozen, a bottle of lock de-icer (available at auto parts stores or hardware stores) will help.

Other than that, try every door including the rear hatch. Even if you have to climb in the back and over the seats, once you're in, running the engine and heater should help thaw out the doors and door seals.
Or she could wait until Friday.

Thanks so much for that suggestion. There was no way I was going to get in through the other four doors as they were stuck shut, even after I poured warm water on them. That always worked with my other car which is a 1986 Honda Prelude but but it does not work with the car I am driving now, which is a 1999 Honda CRV.

Thank God I was able to get the key into the back hatch maybe because the keyhole is not directly exposed to the cold air, and then I was able to pry the window open and then pry the door open. Then I got my step-stool and crawled in through the back into the front seat and started the car and let it run for about 10 minutes with the heat on full blast. I still cannot open the other doors but that's okay. I am short and pretty agile, so it is easy to crawl through, especially because all the seats are down flat except the front seats.

This afternoon when I have to go out I will crawl through the back again and be on my way. I doubt that will warm things up enough to open the front doors but I'd rather wait till they thaw on their own as rain and warmer weather is coming soon and then all this will be history.

Crawling through the back hatch was the only way I was going to get in the car today, but that worked out quite well, as I just explained to @9-10ths_Penguin above.
Run the heater at full blast. The air should be very dry now so that once it warms up the moisture that is left will leave and not come back. if you get a tad uncomfortable then opening up a window a crack to balance the heat is not a bad idea. The air will be dry and could compensate for some of the water that you exhale.

Okay thanks.... I'll let you know what happens later, after my excursion to the vet clinic and Costco!

I had to crawl through the back to get in and drive to the vet, and when I got there I could not open the front door and get out, so I crawled through and went out the back. All this made me 10 minutes late for my appointment. I was not expecting the front door to open after the appointment, but I was pleasantly surprised when it opened with the key. I guess it did warm up after all.

Lots of rain here in California right now. That's great, we needed it.

Just wish it wasn't so wet.

Oh I'm sure science could come up with dry water if they really set their minds to it.

I mean if we can pretend to put a man on the moon . . .

I can supply all the dehydrated water you require. $500 plus P&H and appropriate taxes.
