What are you doing this weekend?

Yes, I just noticed there are a lot of leaves on my deck but I am 'leaving' them there. :D
The raccoons like to play in the leaves.
If I don't get the leaves off'n the pavement, then
they'll compact & freeze there. That makes snow
shoveling very difficult. Besides, my hostas benefit
from the nourishment.

Hey RFians,

What are your plans for the weekend?

For me, my son is having a birthday party sleep-over. 8 stinky middle-school boys will be invading the house. Scary. well. hopefully they won't be too stinky.:D
Well, for me the main event was going to be spending 3hours tomorrow morning singing through Elgar's Dream of Gerontius. However I have gone down with a cold (not Covid - I've checked), so that puts the tin hat on that.

I shall instead spend the day trying to find a suitable warm white paint to complete the colour scheme for my sitting room, which is going to be redecorated next week, and start putting together ideas for the eulogy at my father's funeral later in the month which, as the eldest, I shall have to give.

I'm letting 90% of the leaves come down before I sweep them up. I find the wind tends to blow them into drifts that are less effort to bag up, so that's helpful. The problem is my wisteria, which annoyingly always comes down in a 2-stage process: first the leaves, and then, about 3 weeks later, the stems they were attached to. This year I hope they come off soon, as I'm due to have the front of the house repointed, starting at the end of the month. I'll have to detach the wisteria in sections so they can get at the bricks behind, which will be far easier once the leaves are off.

I don't know where you live but even for here where rain is the usual, it never rains this much this early in the season, not that I can remember.

The raccoons don't seem to be bothered by the rain and it certainly does not affect their assertiveness.
They are out there on the deck right now playing in the puddles that are made when all the bird food falls from all the bird feeders..... I will feed them later but it is too early to feed them yet... Meanwhile, I have to hide from them because if they see me they will start knocking down the chairs on the deck or climbing up on the glass table and looking in the kitchen window to try to get my attention...

Have you ever seen a wet raccoon?
No, I can't say I have. There's a pretty big one that saunters across the top rail of the back fence every once and a while. But we haven't been formally introduced, if you know what I mean.

Getting leaves off of driveways & parking areas.
Putting them on hosta beds.
Leafing is a lot of work. Sadly, my leaf blower is on the fritz. Hopefully it just needs an oil change. Do you use a leaf blower, or is it all "revolt" powered hand raking and such?

I understand, because you live in the Midwest where it snows a lot. It rarely snows here and when it does it melts soon thereafter rather than freezing, so the leaves just stay wet and slushy.

The funny thing about Danes is that we just answer straight out. So you might not like the answer, but you asked. Just as if you had asked how are you doing?

Well, I am coping with the fact, that my wife got cancer again. The good thing is that it is the second time, so I should be better at coping and helping her. The bad thing is that it is the 2nd time.

See, you asked and I answered. Non-Danes find that weird, but that is our culture. :)

Most of my trees don't have leaves, since most of the trees on my property are evergreens, but there are still a fair number of deciduous trees since my property is covered in trees. I don't even know how many leaves there are since I never look around on my property, except on the deck, which is unavoidable, since I have to go out and feed the raccoons.

Nothing is ever going to be addressed on this property unless I get married again, and he is a handyman and likes doing yard work, but the prospects of remarriage are not looking good right now. I could hire all the work out because I have plenty of money, but I have no motivation since I am depressed about my situation. :(

It would make more sense for me to live in a condo where everything is maintained, if I did not have so many cats, and besides, I like the privacy of living in a house that is in the country and secluded from other people.

I'm so sorry to hear that Mikkel. Many blessings and wishes for a speedy recovery and strength throughout for both of you.

I am not a Dane but I also answer straight out since that is my personality. I am not doing very well right now. A few months ago I lost my husband rather suddenly to cancer, and he did not stand a chance since his case was misdiagnosed and mismanaged by the doctors, so I am filing a law suit as soon as I can get my bearings.

I wish you all the best and I hope your wife has a better outcome than my husband did. I hear you have an excellent healthcare system in Denmark.

I don't rake leaves, but I mulch them with the lawn mower. They fertilize the grass some.

depression is awful. I struggle with that too.
I would never have thought that about you, since you have a wife and children and a strong faith belief, but people can be depressed for many reasons. I am not really depressed anymore, not clinically, but I am very downcast about my living situation. I felt that way before my husband passed on this year but now it is 100 times worse. :( That is one reason you don't see me wanting to debate about religion much, because I am just trying to stay afloat and not fall into a clinical depression.
