What are your ribbons for?

The cake is a lie
Since we can't pick only one cause for a ribbon, what cause(s) does your ribbon support?

Rainbow - Gay and Lesbian Pride. I lucked out here, since that was the only option for it. :D

Grey - Mental Illness. Serious depression runs on my mom's side of the family, and my girlfriend hallucinates and gets badly depressed at times.

Orange - Self Injury, Cultural Diversity, Racial Tolerance, Lupus. My girlfriend and I have both had issues with self injury in the past. Every day I see people that even LOOK Hispanic be verbally abused by racist arses here, hence the cultural diversity and racial tolerance support. My grandmother, once an energetic woman who could run circles around my mother, fell prey to lupus and is now weak and in pain.

As a little side topic, what ribbon are you shooting for next? I want to get the red one, but for AIDS support... I absolutely HATE DARE. :banghead3

My Yellow Ribbon is for:
Troop and Military Support - Amber Alert - Bladder Cancer - Endometriosis - Equality - Liver Cancer - Liver Disease - Missing Children - POW/MIA - Spina Bifida - Suicide

I support our troops and their families although I do not support our President. The Amber Alert is a great website tool that alerts of missing children. I had Endometriosis and I do not know for how long I actually had it before it was finally detected. I do know my last 2 pregnancies were very high risk and painful but after my last child I had pain one week a month and over 2 years the pain more frequent until it was every day. I had to have a hysterectomy the day after Christmas in 2002, when I was 27. So that cause hits home for me.

The other causes are equally as good, I am just not as up to date on them.

My next ribbon will probably be one for mental illness and depression. I had my first appointment with a psychiatrist, since I was 16, today and found out that I also have panic and anxiety and post-tramatic stress disorders as part of my depression. I never thought that I had the other two until I was asked a bunch of questions about how I feel and react to situations.

Ok, sorry, I got off topic.

I plan on getting all the ribbons sooner or later.

The ribbons are fun and a good way to spend your cash, but don't forget about the real charity!

So far, I've only invested in the teal one. My mom is an ovarian cancer survivor, so I wanted to honor that. I think I'll be shooting for the rainbow one next, in recognition of all my friends here on the board and in "RL" who've inspired me in their courage of standing up for who they are.

Now that hsas made me happy it is for cancer and epilepsy. I wish they could find a cure for such illnesses. I am happy to support these.

The orange one I chose for hunger, and racial tolerance. I do hate when people injure themselves as well, so that worked out good.

The blue one I chose for esophageal cancer because my grandfather had it as a kid and I never knew about until a couple years ago. He died when I was young, so I feel closer to him now knowing that about him.

MV, there's something we chose the same again ;).

I chose orange for similar reasons. I loath racism and want more cultural tolerance of other people (hence cultural diversity). I've gone to bed hungry, so I understand that. I have had family with Leukemia, and an uncle dying of Lupis.

All these things make it the ideal choice for my first ribbon :).

I somewhat arbitrarily decided that I was going to limit myself to three ribbons. I bolded the causes that were most important to me.

green: Bone Marrow Donation - Childhood Depression - Depression - Environment - Eye Injury Prevention - Glaucoma - Kidney Cancer - Kidney Disease - Kidney Transplantation - Leukemia - Lyme Disease - Mental Retardation - Missing Children - Organ Donation - Tissue Donation - Worker Safety

First and foremost, I chose green for the environment. But to me, it doesn't just mean that we should conserve our resources; it means a recognition of the interdependancy of all life. In addition, I like that green represents organ donation, something that I strongly believe in. When I no longer need my body, I see no reason why someone else shouldn't have what they need to continue living. Lastly, depression runs in my family so it doesn't hurt that that's there.

USA: World Trade Center Victims and Heroes - Fireworks Safety

I lived in NY when the twin towers were attacked (and now I live in DC and drive by the Pentagon on a regular basis). I still can't see the Manhattan skyline without crying.

The next and last ribbon that I'm shooting for is:

Orange: Cultural Diversity - Hunger - Leukemia - Lupus - Melanoma - Racial Tolerance - Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome - Self Injury

This could easily have been the first ribbon that I chose (The USA ribbon was 2nd for aesthetic reasons). I'm all for promoting racial tolerance and cultural diversity (including religious diversity). Not just tolerance for, but a celebration of diversity. And I certainly don't mind that orange also stands for hunger. See my sig.
:D

Yay! Just got the rainbow one!

I think I'll be going with the orange one next, for the same reasons as Lilithu and No*s.

Rainbow - Gay and Lesbian Pride :woohoo:
Pink and Blue - Sudden Infant Death, Pregnancy Loss
Green - Depression, Environment, Organ Donation
Pink - Breast Cancer

That's not to say that I don't support other causes that these colour ribbons represent, but these are the main reasons I chose the colours I did. :) I haven't decided what colour is next...probably orange.
