World's Tallest Hobbit
I just posted a summary over in the other thread. Hopefully that'll help, and I'm working on a FAQ.

I personally don't like bumper stickers myself, but in the case of ribbons on a forum such as this, I think they increase awareness of the causes that are actually out there to support. I had no idea what Amber Alert was until I read this thread yesterday, and I'm sure there are many others in the long list of causes to show support for, that I never knew existed, and that others never knew existed. I don't think anything bad can come of increased awareness.Gerani1248 said:personally, Im not the type of person to be flaunting my support by attatching ribbons to the bumper of my vehicle. I kno, i kno, there are some people who wish to show that they are proud, but its more than that. To me, modesty is extremly beautiful, a very attractive trait that is unforunitly not with many people of this culture. hm... just a thought.
same as the jesus fish.
Awww, thank you dear!SoulTYPE01 said:You must spread some Karma around before giving it to Circle_One again.
Anyways, C1, that was very nice of you to say. You show that you care for children a great deal. Full respect your way, girl.

And I think this is the reason most people are getting ribbons, and why people get bumper stickers - it's not to say "Hey, I'm better than you because I'm supporting [insert cause here].", it's to increase awareness of that cause for people who might not otherwise know it exists. In the case of your red ribbon day for heart disease in women, I'd bet that when people think 'heart disease', they think of fat old men with bad eating habits and high blood pressure. Yes, everyone gets heart disease - young and old, male and female - but not everyone is really aware of it in the way that people who often support these causes are. It's all good.Gerani1248 said:well, we just had red ribbon day to increase awareness of heat disease in women. this confused me, everyone gets heart disease... but i agree with you bastet, about how it increases awareness.
What's to say that some people don't consider bumper stickers to be advertising in the 'forum' of life? I personally don't see the point in messing up a good car with sticky bits of plastic, no matter what's on them lol. Unless you're covering up the rust holes...Gerani said:as for the hinduism thing, this is afterall a religious forums, and im not *flaunting* it as one who would put up bumper stickers. I dont agree with it, but anyone has that right, its thier car, freedom of speech! I just dont agree with it. I mean, in a sense it tells others who dont have an *i support our troops* bumper sticker that they dont. there is no point. But oh well, you can shout your support for the troops, and feel grateful and proud, that is one's freedom, what america stands for.
That's an especially good one, Sunstone. I think that will be my next goal.Sunstone said:I picked the green ribbon for three of its causes: (1) Depression, (2) Childhood depression, and (3) missing children.
I completely understand not liking or wanting them, Deut. I'm just curious, do you think that they detract from us donating to the actual charities, as we should be doing if we are financially able? I know you mentioned "Hotel Rwanda" in another thread, and your frustration about the ribbons. I just wondered if this was perhaps why.Deut. 32.8 said:Don't like em; don't want em.
