My ribbons are for the following:

Yellow = Childhood Cancer
Blue = Child Abuse
Purple = Domestic Violence
Green = Childhood Depression/Mental Retardation/Missing Children

The Black is for melanoma, and anti gangs whilst the lavender represents cancer cures.

LOL, "anti gangs", ironic for me to have that ;)

"I support our troops and their families although I do not support our President. The Amber Alert is a great website tool that alerts of missing children."

i completely agree.

personally, Im not the type of person to be flaunting my support by attatching ribbons to the bumper of my vehicle. I kno, i kno, there are some people who wish to show that they are proud, but its more than that. To me, modesty is extremly beautiful, a very attractive trait that is unforunitly not with many people of this culture. hm... just a thought.

same as the jesus fish.

I chose mine for the following reasons:

Yellow: Amber Alert, Missing Children-It always kills me when I read about or see kids missing on the news, as a mother, I would die if that ever happened to me and so I wholly support these two things. I also chose this color as it supports Spina Bifida, I had a neice who died of it, and suicide, as I've lost many friends this way.

Burgundy: I had a C-Section with my son and so I chose this ribbon for this reason.

I personally don't like bumper stickers myself, but in the case of ribbons on a forum such as this, I think they increase awareness of the causes that are actually out there to support. I had no idea what Amber Alert was until I read this thread yesterday, and I'm sure there are many others in the long list of causes to show support for, that I never knew existed, and that others never knew existed. I don't think anything bad can come of increased awareness.

You think "flaunting" ribbons is a lack of modesty, and yet you have no problem embellishing your posts with an avatar, and stating that your religion is Hinduism...I don't see that as any different to a Jesus fish on a car.

You must spread some Karma around before giving it to Circle_One again.

Anyways, C1, that was very nice of you to say. You show that you care for children a great deal. Full respect your way, girl.

pah has generously funded my third and final ribbon, albeit under circumstances that are somewhat sad. I just wanted to thank him again: Thank you, pah!

well, we just had red ribbon day to increase awareness of heat disease in women. this confused me, everyone gets heart disease... but i agree with you bastet, about how it increases awareness.

as for the hinduism thing, this is afterall a religious forums, and im not *flaunting* it as one who would put up bumper stickers. I dont agree with it, but anyone has that right, its thier car, freedom of speech! I just dont agree with it. I mean, in a sense it tells others who dont have an *i support our troops* bumper sticker that they dont. there is no point. But oh well, you can shout your support for the troops, and feel grateful and proud, that is one's freedom, what america stands for.

i only mention the jesus fish because there was a similair thread about this...

anyways....

I picked the green ribbon for three of its causes: (1) Depression, (2) Childhood depression, and (3) missing children.

And I think this is the reason most people are getting ribbons, and why people get bumper stickers - it's not to say "Hey, I'm better than you because I'm supporting [insert cause here].", it's to increase awareness of that cause for people who might not otherwise know it exists. In the case of your red ribbon day for heart disease in women, I'd bet that when people think 'heart disease', they think of fat old men with bad eating habits and high blood pressure. Yes, everyone gets heart disease - young and old, male and female - but not everyone is really aware of it in the way that people who often support these causes are. ;) It's all good.

What's to say that some people don't consider bumper stickers to be advertising in the 'forum' of life? I personally don't see the point in messing up a good car with sticky bits of plastic, no matter what's on them lol. Unless you're covering up the rust holes... :p

That's an especially good one, Sunstone. I think that will be my next goal.

I would have to say (completely off-topic) that the one most horrible experience I had with the Jesus fish was when I was still a Christian, at about age 12. I was babysitting these two girls, and they were just absolutely lovely. They happened to see my familys' car one day, though, and started to look at me like I had two heads.

I finally figured out why after they'd stopped screaming. They had been taught that "if a car has a fishie on it, that means the people inside are Christian". Using child- logic (and a logic that some adults use, too), they had concluded that any car that didn't have a Jesus fish on it was nbt Christian, and therefore demonic.

It took a lot of explaining to convince them otherwise, poor things. I was nearly as traumatized as they were at the time, but I look back on it and laugh. :biglaugh:

I completely understand not liking or wanting them, Deut. I'm just curious, do you think that they detract from us donating to the actual charities, as we should be doing if we are financially able? I know you mentioned "Hotel Rwanda" in another thread, and your frustration about the ribbons. I just wondered if this was perhaps why.
