what christians do

Not your average Mormon
Idea, I know you used to be a Mormon, so I am a little surprised that you believe this is what my church teaches.
It's not really all that surprising, Scott. I have frequently noticed, and I suspect you have, too, that when someone chooses to leave the Church, doctrines they once fully understood become strangely twisted. It's hard to believe that idea has actually forgotten what she believed for so many years. If she had actually believed ten or fifteen years ago what she is now claiming our church teaches, I suspect she would have left then.

Not just modern Christians. From Matthew 6:
..............snip to here.........

There's a line in Anne of Green Gables where a devoutly religious character criticizes someone for despairing because "to despair is to turn your back on God." That's the spirit I'm going for: if you're being driven by despair for the poor or the hungry, aren't you admitting that you don't trust God?

I mean, the record shows that God probably shouldn't be trusted, but still: hasn't a Christian put their trust in God? Isn't that what faith is?

Nobody driven by despair would help the poor and hungry. Only those "driven" by hope that things can indeed be better do this.

There is a 'line' in the NT about what God thinks regarding those who think that prayer is all one needs to do, to pull that 'genie' out of the lamp; something about how, come judgment day, Christ isn't going to be happy with those who do NOT actually DO stuff for themselves and others. No sitting on one's salvation, in other words.

modern christians do not care about the rules of how we should live our lives, and instead, they pray for miracles, genie in the lamp god.
The Christian conception of God and his interaction with humans (and all of reality) is false.
