What Did Jesus Really Teach?

InChrist

Did he have to have a numerical majority of acceptance among the Jews for the Earthly Kingdom to commence? The entire early Church was made up of nothing but Jews. The Pharisees sent Paul to crack down on them because so many Jews were converting. It was all planned that Jesus would be crucified according to his own words, otherwise he would have escaped when he had the chance. Perhaps the 'Kingdom" is already here, and the Earthly reign from Jerusalem will arrive after the Age of Tribulation.

You are certainly correct that all the first believers and followers of Jesus were Jewish and for the most part it was Jews who made up the early Church, but the religious leaders of Israel rejected Christ. So on a national level Israel did not repent or receive Him as Messiah. I agree it was planned that Jesus would be crucified for the sins of the world and whether that involved the Jews or just the Romans, it still would have occurred.I think the prayer Jesus told the disciples to pray indicates that the kingdom is not yet here on earth, but it will come to earth,as you say, after the Tribulation when Jesus intervenes to save Israel and all of Israel repents and recognizes Him as Messiah.

Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

Just because I gave 4 verses doesn't mean that Jesus didn't have more apocalyptic sayings. If you read the synoptic gospels, you will see that Jesus had alot more to say about the End than people are willing to admit.

I know there is a lot but if I go through one of the gospels I don't really get end times being the primary message. There is so much more to all the parables and references to OT. Much of the talk would have stemmed from the belief that he was of the line of Jacob.

The Synoptic Gospels are Matthew, Mark, and Luke, which are included in the bible.

Did you mean the Biblical Apocrapha instead of Synoptic?

Cynthia, How can you expect to learn from anyone if you know everything? You know, empty the cup so it can be filled?

No one has a problem agreeing with you about Jesus preaching the end is near. You don't seem to understand people agree with you.

The problem here is defining "near", "generation", and so forth. To which you have taken the liberty to define it in your head, but have thus far given very little reason for anyone to agree with your strong position, even if they wanted to.

Example, Jesus indicated he was either God in the flesh, or at least divinely sent from God. He indicates he is as old as eternity when talking to the scribes about Abraham, saying to them "before Abraham was, I am".

With language like that, one can wonder when an eternally sent being says something is near, does it mean the same thing as we may think, or is it a parable?

It is little things like this that bring joy to those who study such matters, because it offers a glimpse into things we really don't comprehend, yet we still enjoy seeking.

Hope this thread becomes fruitful for you and us.

Well, don't hold back, feel free to show your examples to examine them in context. Do you not agree that Jesus was more or less referring to the "age" and his "generation"? Can you demonstrate that he was referring to "all time" and not just "the age"?

I think before we can commit to a time frame for the kingdom of god, one has to define the kingdom of god. And so fat that is still up for debate
