What do people think "theist" means?

These days it's the term atheists use to lump together all people who believe in a god so that they can deny all in one fell swoop.

Well I know I don't do that, so why put that onto all atheists? There are good and bad in all groups aren't there?

Sorry. There's another reason I said it that has little to do with atheists, it's that 'theist' as a label is just not all that useful to many who would actually fall under that classification. There are so many theisms, e.g., monotheism, polytheism, henotheism, pantheism... it seems that everyone is a specific type of theist. 'Theist' doesn't do more to describe the person, so the only real use is in the collective sense. Yet atheist is in opposition to the concept of theism, and I hear atheists use the term 'theist' a lot. It just made it that little bit easier to write that post. I do apologize for the sweeping statement.

Cheers. No,offence, but sweeping statements are always wrong - forgive me for jumping on it, but there is a rash of over-generalising sweeping the forum. :)
