What do Religion has to do with Us?

To be fair, that is one understanding of religion - and one of the most flawed of all at that.

I will not deny that it is popular, but it dangerous to assume that it is the one held by any random person.

Yes it is the most commonly understood description of religion because it describes most religions. If you wish to discuss a religion that does not contain these elements name and describe it.

Any religion worth its salt has some elements of questioning dogma. Even Islam.

If you don't follow government then you are terrorist.
No, I am just not a supporter of whatever policy is being proposed.

Maybe you meant to ask whether I obbey the government's laws? That is not a moral requisite either, and not enough to make a terrorist out of me anyway. A transgressor or even a criminal, maybe.

Terrorism is something rather specific. For one thing, it involves violence or at least the threat of violence.

There is a lot of room to refuse to follow a government's wishes without ever coming anywhere close to becoming a terrorist.

Looking at the thoughts on the web and news I am wondering what the heck Religion has to do with the world?
What is the significance and importance of the Religion in life?
I believe there is true religion, which is accurate knowledge and worship of the one true God. I also believe that finding the true religion will help us answer the big questions in life: Why are we here, why is there suffering, what does the future hold, and how can we be happy now. The true religion can also help us avoid needless problems and tragedies in life by directing us on how to act and conduct ourselves. This has great benefits, IMO.

I question whether there are any "true" religions, but if you grant the possibility, then the question is after thousands of years and thousands of religions, why don't we know which one is true? What is the objective, failproof way to pick the correct one?
