What do you collect?

I've started collecting rubber stamps. I love that you can not only collect them for the purdy pictures, but you can also turn around and use them to make *more* purdy pictures!

I used to be an avid stamp collector - I have some beautiful stamps from the Congo - I expect my grandchildren should find that they are worth something by the time they are old enough to appreciate them.

The onloy other thing I collect is computers - I hate seeing something with which there is nothing wrong except a bit of age (Crikey that description fits me!:D )being thrown out as scrap.....:(

What kinds of things do you like to collect?

I mostly collect interesting toys and models(leaning heavily towards SciFi/Fantasy).My largest collections are Star Wars and Star Trek items.I love it when someone says"aren't you a little old for this stuff?".

My wife collects ceramic roosters, teapots, and candles(we could light the whole city!).
Is this supposed to tell us something about our psychology? I collect Fountain Pens, Watches and all kinds of stuff. And empty cigarette packets.

I collect comic books, graphic novels and sequential art. I do not collect with the speculation that they might be worth something but I collect them as priceless art books.

I collect Happy Meal Toys and Kids Club toys. Usually they are licensed characters from Disney and Pixar, Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network characters.

I collect music recordings but not as much as I used to. 20 years ago, I used to work in a CD/Record/cassette shop and if you enjoy music it can become a dangerous profession.

I collect movies of all genres.

I collect Betty Boop items.

I collect beliefs (they're free).

Mrscardero and I collect jazz decorations (statues, wall mounts, cookie jars).

We also collect action figures of our favorite hero and animated characters.

Mrscardero collects dolls, porcelain and International dolls and also Elmo.

I collect icons. It drives my wife absolutely mad because she has to find somewhere respectful to put them all and she seems to think we're running out of wall space! At least I'll have a perfectly valid excuse to get another one commissioned soon as we'll need one of the expected baby's patron saint when he/she is born. She can't argue with that, although she probably will say something to the effect that she had never intended to live in a church.

anybody else look for their items at yardsales?

I collect music. That's it. In fact, I pretty much just have a ton of music, my computer, and enough clothes to last me a week (7 shirts, 3 pairs of pants :D).

I'm a really poor collector, but I do collect jars and bowls. I used to collect pewter statuettes. Now all my stuff just collects dust.

I don't really collect anything other than books, and only then if I can afford them. I guess I do collect brown pottery, like dishes and such. But they have to be practical, something I can use. I see no sense in buying a bowl, for example, just to put on a shelf and never use.

Okay, I'll tell you! I collect Roosters! Yep, all kinds of them. I even have a rooster lamp. My guess is I probably have about 100 of them, and they all seem to congregate in the kitchen. My husband hates them and won't allow me to have them ALL out, so most are packed away. But every once in a while...........I pull one out to add to the bunch! :D
(hee hee hee) But don't tell! :tsk:

That's great! We have a kitchen full of roosters too. I'm always on the lookout for something unique my wife can add to her collection.

i collect books

i have stacks and stack of book on many topics, but the most common topic is "world religions" and "theology/philosophy" books

id rather read a book than watch the film, fiction etc is soooo much better in your imagination than on screen, i find films to be very impersonal compared to books, because they require little involvement/engagement with the viewer

I collect music. All the songs I have are enough to, literally, listen to for two weeks and not hear the same song twice. Metallica, KoRn, Mnemic, Ministry, Pantera, Rob Zombie, Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, 3 Doors Down, Children of Bodom, Bon Jovi, Shinedown, Disturbed, Demon Hunter, Katakylsm, Dimmu Borgir, Evanescense, Static-X, Megadeath, Smile Empty Soul, several multi-artist CDs, KISS, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, Journey, Aerosmith, John Cougar Mellencamp, Creed, Eric Clapton, Eagles, Steve Miller, and thats just the starting of the list of all the artist I have.

I also collect phrases, quotes, and philosiphies. I have several notebooks filled with my favorite quotes, which come from many sources, from ancient philosiphers, such as Sun Tzu, to modern musicians and thinkers. I would say my favorite one is "Those who know when to fight and when not to fight are victorious," and several others from "The Art of War."

Stamps, Comic books, Sports cards/memorabilia, currency, electronics, LPs, Music in general, films in general, newspapers, guitars, tools, maybe a few other things, but they are nowhere near as extensive as my other colections. I started collecting very young. The First comic book that I ever bought for non-reading purposes when I was 10 was sent in 1 year ago for grading, and it came back a 9.8... and I had only improved on handling skills since then :) so Im pretty happy with what I have. But I also feel that times like this (where market returns arent so strong, and bank intrest rates are still poor) are great times to invest in tangible items.

I just completed my beatles Vinyl collection last month, so Im pretty stoked about that. Its the 1st print of Yesterday and Today, and it has an unpeeled cover. I think that I spent 7 years trying to find any 1st pressing in good condition.
Sad part about getting older and older is that your wishlist slowly vanishes, and I'm not into beanie babies(although I have a lot of those too...gifts!) sigh. LOL No offence to BB collectors, its just not for me.

I would love to see your collection! :bounce
I have friends and co-workers who still help add to my collection, and feel the ugly the bird, the more I'll love it...and they're right! :biglaugh:

This makes Mr Mouse even more disgruntled! :banghead3

All I collect is reminders from past partners, whenever a boyfriend or girlfriend gives me something I keep it & put it away in a secret place, I never even realised I was doing it for a long time. I have badges, lighters, postcards, pictures, valentine's day cards & anything else I have been given by a romantic interest.

I buy alot of hats though, old ones people wore with suits back in the 50s, it's not really a collection though since I wear them & lose so many I don't actually have that many compared to how many I've bought.
