I didn't find her charade of a "performance" to be particularly funny but think the hoopla that has blown up over it is pretty misguided. I know people suffer from reading comprehension deficits but are we now running into listening comprehension deficits as well? Maybe next year they should tap Rosanne Barr. *giggles nervously* (At least she is a seasoned pro who actually understands humor.)

Not everyone has the same sense of humor. I don't see the humor in slapstick, but I recognize that many people do. It amuses me that you describe her as not being funny, rather than as not to your taste.

To be perfectly honest, @Sunstone I don't see many comedians as being particularly funny these days. It's almost like a race to the bottom of the humor tar pit. Part of my problem with the current state of comedy is that I'm a very funny person in real life. If anyone on RF spent a couple of hours around me they would quickly see that and probably come away from the experience wondering if I was EVER serious.

Fair enough.

I think Wolf’s comments on media selling out and creating a monster were quite interesting.

Do you ever listen to performers at The Moth?
These are experienced story tellers.
Some are quite funny.
It's not echo chamber humor.
They're true stories from their own lives.
Try Snap Judgement too.
(I know these are on liberal NPR, but they're good nonetheless.)

A friend was once a stand up comic.
He knew that if the crowd was liberal, he could just say "That bush".
It was a guaranteed laugh because the audience was primed for
humor such that actual comedic content wasn't necessary. It was
everyone going with satisfied expectations & group belonging.
(Note: the presidential reference dates him. He's a lumberjack now.)

As for Ms Wolf, I know next to nothing about her.
It will remain this way.

I find it adorable that those who've made a habit of referring to people as "snowflakes" for being offended by something have turned out to be the biggest teary-eyed, butthurt snowflakes of all.

I think her humor was average, at best. But the justifications for the backlash have been hilarious.

What? Me worry?

I think you're reading this backwards. It's the left that wanted to draw and quarter anyone from the right that made a disparaging remark about anything that had to do with a woman's body, face, love life, shoe size, etc. Now they show that only pertains to their peeps.

I second The Moth. Some really good stuff comes out of there; and it's not as left slanted as they seem to be in a lot of their other programming.

What do you think of Michelle Wolfs' speech at the White House Correspondents' dinner?

I thought it brought forth some important issues that are largely dismissed by the mainstream media.
Other than that, it was not particularly funny or clever. Not that it should be.

I feel like the WHCD has recently (last 10 years or so) devolved into a self-congratulatory affair attended by people who've deluded themselves into thinking that they are doing something noble and important. They need an angry comedian to jolt them into the real world, even if it is just for a few minutes. So, in that sense I think Michelle Wolf did a great job. I like to watch these pompous people squirm uncomfortably whenever a truth bomb is hurled their way.

The Moth is the best podcast I listen to. I've never been able to make it through an entire episode of Snap Judgment. Maybe it's the format or something.

A couple of the jokes were really good. The line about how Trump "couldn't sell vodka, steaks, college or Eric" is still making me smirk.

I think it was what is called for. Calling truth to power like that takes balls and she was swinging a massive pair around that stage.

I find it supremely ironic that the right is crying about how mean spirited it was.

Did she say anything disparaging? Small hands might have come up, but that's less body shaming than simple caricature..

? Where do you learn these things? I'll tell you one thing, conservatives all think the same thing. You'll notice you don't have any examples. RW media doesn't give them.
